Police Strengthened Synergy With Traditional Rulers, Community Leaders To Enhance Security In Ebonyi

In line with the community policing intiative of the Nigeria Police Force, the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Command, CP Hope Urunwa Okafor, psc, mnips, paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Ebonyi State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Ezeogo Charles Mkpuma, CFR, at his palace in Ezzama Community, Ezza South Local Government Area.

During the visit, the Commissioner of Police stated that her mission was to strengthen collaboration with the traditional institution in the collective effort to sustain peace and security across Ebonyi State. She appealed to His Majesty and members of his cabinet to continue supporting the Command with credible and timely information that would enhance intelligence gathering and aid law enforcement operations. She also urged the royal father to caution his subjects against all forms of violence and other unlawful acts as political campaigns commence ahead of the election season.

In his response, His Majesty commended the Commissioner of Police for the Command's prompt response to security issues and assured her of the unwavering support of the traditional institution. He pledged that the traditional rulers would continue to provide useful information to the Police and intensify efforts to educate their subjects on the need to shun violence and uphold peace.

The Commissioner of Police also met with community leaders at the Ezza South Divisional Headquarters, Onueke, where she reaffirmed the Command's commitment to protecting lives and property. She emphasised that the Police are partners of the people and encouraged residents to support security efforts by providing prompt and credible information. She further appealed to parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and wards, ensuring they are not influenced into drug abuse, cultism, or any form of violent behaviour, particularly as the election period approaches.

Speaking on behalf of the community leaders, the President-General of Nsokara Community, Mr. Ikechukwu Nwafor, requested unfettered access to the Commissioner of Police to facilitate the timely sharing of security-related information. He also expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for the operational vehicle recently provided to the Ezza South Division, noting that it would greatly enhance policing and improve security within the area.
