In a total display of gratitude and solidarity to the unprecedented expansion of healthcare coverage and improved service delivery in Ebonyi State health insurance Agency (EBSHIA), over one hundred and thirty seven thousand beneficiaries of the Ebonyi State Health Insurance Agency (EBSHIA)free healthcare services, on Tuesday, endorsed Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for a second term in office.
The endorsement which took place at the main bow of Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki, witnessed mammoth crowd drawn from the 13 Local Government Area of the state, who were direct beneficiaries of the various health interventions of the Agency.
Speaking at the event, Governor Nwifuru, represented by the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, commended EBSHIA for what he described as the effective implementation of the government’s healthcare policies.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery, education, infrastructure, and human capital development to improve the welfare of citizens across the state.
The governor assured stakeholders that his administration would continue to deepen reforms in the health sector to ensure wider insurance coverage and enhanced service delivery.
On his part, the Executive Secretary of EBSHIA, Dr. Divine
Igwe noted that Governor Nwifuru’s administration had transformed access to quality healthcare by making medical services more affordable and accessible to residents.
“His Excellency has demonstrated beyond doubt that healthcare is not a privilege for the rich but a fundamental right of every citizen,” he said.
He described the health insurance scheme as a critical pillar of the state’s healthcare system, providing financial protection and improved access to medical services, particularly for vulnerable households, assuring beneficiaries that the agency would continue expanding coverage to achieve universal access to affordable healthcare across all 171 wards of the state.
He called on all the beneficiaries and all Ebonyians to support the re-election of Governor Francis Nwifuru to continue his good work in the health sector.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, he formally announced their endorsement of Governor Nwifuru for a second term, describing the administration’s healthcare reforms as transformative and life-saving.
“Our testimonies are your campaign. We proudly declare our total support for His Excellency, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for a second term in office,” he said.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the EBSHIA Board, Barrister Elizabeth Ogbaga, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Lawrence Ezeogo, commended the agency for its performance and growing impact on healthcare delivery across the state.
In her remarks, the Officer-in-Charge (OIC), Elizabeth Odoh, speaking on behalf of healthcare workers, praised Governor Nwifuru’s leadership, describing it as instrumental in transforming the state’s health sector.
She expressed confidence that the governor’s achievements had earned him widespread support ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Agnes Nwamini from Izzi Local Government Area, who undergone free hip replacement, Mrs Esther Nwali from Ikwo, free delivery of triplets, His Royal Highness Eze Augustine Ikechukwu from Onicha local government Area who had free eye surgery, among others lauded the governor for prioritizing the health needs of his people, assuring that they will do everything humanly possible to return him come 2027 general election.
