“Setting Standard in Education Sector is not a one man affairs but affairs of all, take overall nature of what is happening in schools with pictorial evidences without falsification and submit to the ministry of Education within one week”
The Hon. Commissioner for Education Primary and Secondary Dr. Donatus Ilang made the charge when the Ebonyi State Parent Teacher Association PTA paid him a courtesy visit in his Office Block 4 Ochudo Centenary City Abakaliki.
Dr. Ilang said that PTA in the State has undermined their core responsibilities of record keeping that would be enhanced through Educational materials, teachers absence in school, dilapidated and vandalized infrastructures in schools both Urban and rural areas.
The Commissioner advised them to have a unified force that can write directly to His Excellency intimating him of what they discovered in the school system that would enhanced teaching and learning if harnessed and implemented.
He said that the Ministry of Education needs a reliable and qualitative information to work with, urging PTA to think of a way they can contribute to the growth of Ebonyi State school system and eschew the thought that somebody is marginalizing them as a body.
Commissioner Ilang stated that Ministry of Education will collaborate with the PTA to harness a holistic suppervission to see the nature of dilapidated infrastructure in public schools. He directed them to visit various schools and snap dilapidated structures, laboratories, libraries and how many teachers in each schools. The Hon. Commissioner obliged that he will call for general meeting of the body very soon.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education Mrs. Ngozi Mary Otozi expressed dismay over the lackadaisical approach of the state PTA body on the school activities, adding that the outstanding activities of most PTA bodies in the state has been conspiring with school authority to embezzle money that should have been used to renovate or repair some damaged in the school infrastructures.
Mrs. Otozi advised the state PTA body to wake up to their Responsibilities, call a meeting of their members from each LGA to brain storm on the possible strategy they can employ to enable them monitor what is happening in different public schools and report promptly to the Ministry of Education.
Earlier in his speech, the Chairman Parents Teachers Association Ebonyi State, Chief Marcillenus Nwazufu said that members of the Association visited the new Commissioner for Education to familiarize with him and articulate some factors that are facing Education in Ebonyi State.
Chief Nwazufu appealed the Hon. Commissioner to tackle issues of School dropout, security of school children, shortage of school chairs and table for teachers etc. Chief Nwazufu pledged readiness to collaborate with the state Ministry of Education to enhance school system in the state.
