Drama As Ebonyi PDP Guber Candidate Declares Nkwegu's wife Incoming First Lady

People were pulped to surprises as Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii declared the wife of Ebonyi Labor Party gubernatorial candidate, Lady Chief Mrs Mary Nkwegu as the incoming First Lady of the state.

Chief Odii who is the Ebonyi PDP gubernatorial candidate stated this on Sunday during the annual Harvest Thanksgiving and Banza ceremony of the Nso-na-Agha Adoration Family at the adoration camp, Ugwuachara in Ebonyi Local  Government Area of the state.

Odii ably represented by his running mate, Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu while saluting the special guests at the event described Arc Dr Edward Nkwegu's wife as the incoming First Lady of Ebonyi State come 2023.

"Let me specially recognize the incoming First Lady of Ebonyi State, Mrs EDON" come 2023, Odii declared.

He also recognized the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and other personalities alongside the members of the Nso-na-Agha Adoration family during the occasion.

Also speaking, the gubernatorial candidate of the APC in the state, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru described the wife of the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate, Lady Mrs Mary Nkwegu as his mother.

Nwifuru noted that the event was not for a political campaign but, observed, since every problem must be addressed by God Almighty even though the mass service has ended, he reminded the adoration people that "it is the turn of Ebonyi North Senatorial District to produce the next governor of the state come 2023 general elections."

The APC gubernatorial candidate said he would not have disclosed this but Ebonyi people should be interested in quality leadership to continue tackling their challenges, and therefore, described equity, fairness and social justice as sin-qua-non to peace in the state.

His words: "I'm talking about this because it's about governance, quality leadership, the way forward, and it's what you should think it's right, and how will you get justice, and it's only justice can bring peace in this land and we must stand for that justice.

"My father (Arc Dr Edward Nkwegu) contested the state governorship election in 2015. Edon didn't just sponsor my wedding, he is my friend before we started politics. We worked together because I was the conductor of one of his buses; from there I became a bricklayer in his company, and in the process, we became partners and joined politics, you know the journey was very far.

"We worked together on so many occasion, did many things together and he contested the governorship election in 2015, because of equity, justice and fairness, we decided that we will not support him. It was not as if he didn't have all it takes to be the governor of Ebonyi State. He is very educated, truthful, dedicated to duties, and so intelligent, but we said no because what we wanted was justice. What is good for me, should be good for others, and that's why many of us including me - his son, worked against him in 2015. We told him, it was not our time to produce the governor of the state. So, we didn't support him."

Nwifuru declared that 2023 was the time for Ebonyi North Senatorial District to occupy the apex seat in the state, saying, "I'm not against Edon contesting election this time because he is my father, and he had done well in all businesses. We are not quarrelling, and it's a thing of joy, that you should pray to have a son who can grow till he surpasses you."

He stressed: "Edon has all it takes to be the governor and there is no need to question why he is contesting the governorship position of our state. But I know it's a family matter and we don't need to consult you before we resolve whether to step down or not.

"So, I want to thank my mother (Lady Mrs Mary Nkwegu) and informed the congregation that this is the time for the Ebonyi North, and not time for any other senatorial zones to produce the next governor of Ebonyi State."

Nwifuru also condemned the high level of insecurity challenges across the nation and attributed the causes to bad governance, which according to him, would be ended by a collective effort come 2023.

Further, the wife of the Ebonyi gubernatorial candidate under the platform of the Labour Party described Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru as her beloved son and maintained that she would never fail in giving him motherly advice.

Lady Mrs Nkwegu declared that his husband, Arc Edward Nkwegu remains committed to serving the Ebonyi people as their Chief Servant in 2023 to change the ugly narratives in their state.

While commending the Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, His Lordship Bishop Peter Nworie Chukwu, she burst into praises to God in the adoration centre, with all the wives of the Labour Party Candidates in Ebonyi and also expressed confidence that her husband would win the gubernatorial position to change the ugly narratives heralded in the state.

She said Nigerians particularly Ebonyi people have become tired of political promises, and 2023 demands people of competence, character, and excellent content to take over the mantle of leadership of the country to touch humanity in mega style.

Lady Mrs Nkwegu urged the congregation to throw their weight behind the Labour Party candidates beginning from her husband, the Presidential candidate, Peter Obi and other contenders in 2023, assuring them of quality leadership in the state and the country at large.

She informed the adorers of her husband's vow to continue promoting the gospel in the state and thus, assured them of building a Chapel in the adoration ground after donating to the church an undisclosed amount of money.

Earlier in his sermon, Reverend Father Kenneth Nome during the occasion proclaimed that one of the guests who honoured the ceremony would be the governor of Ebonyi State in 2023.

Father Nome advised the congregation not to be worried about anything as God has designed His programs for the benefit of the human race.

He noted that the central message of today's mass service during the event was 'humility."

He, therefore, urged the congregation to always be humble to foster their upliftment by the God Almighty while pursuing their life endeavours.

  1. Edon media team and lopsided reportage. You centered the whole story on Lady Nkwegu while you know what actually played out there. Be very subjective while making report. Don't tell single story. I was there in the Church, the part that the priests talked. Ebonyians, it have been revealed by the eyes of God that FON is the one God have chosen. May the will of God prevail. Amen.
