Indigenes of Ebonyi State have requested from their governor, Engr David Nweze Umahi to persuade other state governors to convoke town hall meeting with their people for the interest of peace and security across the nation.
The people including Izhia, Ngboejeogu and Effium clans from Ohaukwu Council Area of the state made the request in their communiqué which was read by Senator Anthony Agbo, after their town hall meeting with Governor Umahi at Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakalki today.
"We request that you persuade other Governors of the South East to embark on similar Town Hall meetings/consultations with their stakeholders as you are doing. This is to ensure that the strategic actions you are currently embarking on to ensure lasting security of lives and property in Ebonyi State is not sabotaged by a spillover of security challenges from our neighboring states," part of the communiqué read.
They commended the quick response of the governor to security issues especially when crisis erupted in some communities in the council.
Also in the communiqué, they appreciated Governor Umahi for the opportunity given to them to interact on the important matters affecting the welfare of the state.
They noted that the security of lives and property has become the frontline issue in the country today just as it is in state and local government levels.
"We are immensely grateful to God for giving you the grace, the strength and energy to swiftly respond to the widespread security challenges across Ebonyi State which already has resulted in a rapid return of peace in every part of our State today. Your extraordinary and landmark response which have been both physical, material and spiritual need to be emulated by every state in the country.
"We unanimously, as a people, condemn the unnecessary and avoidable Internal crises that erupted in Effium as well as the unwarranted attack on the people of Umuogudu Akpu Ngbo by strangers as well as other security challenges across the state.
"In particular, we thank you for your rapid, honest and proficient response to the recent Effium Community crises and the attack on Umuogudu Akpu Ngbo Community. I'm both cases, your response was swift, purposeful and full of honest and patriotic disposition as well as sincere and passionate love for your people. The humanitarian assistance you rendered to the people affected stands you out among other leaders in the country where similar disasters, killings and destructions have taken place. We also appreciate your dutiful Deputy who has stood with you firmly in the onslaught against these challenges.
"We wish to put on record that you have distinguished yourself among leaders of contemporary Nigeria in matters of passion and service to the people. With the situation of things in Nigeria today, only a passionate and committed leader like you will make out time to personally visit scenes of attack as you have severally demonstrated, not only in the cases of Effium and Umuogudu Akpu Ngbo but also in the other parts of Ebonyi State where similar situations has arisen," the communiqué also read in parts.
The people further commended the developmental strides of Umahi in his office as the governor of the state.
"Beyond security, we wish to commend your record of achievement you have blessed Ebonyi people with; which obviously has place the state on top of every other state in the country in this leadership dispensation.
"We thank you Sir for the record number of Ohaukwu sons and daughters whom you have appointed into your government including those elected at your instance.
"We are grateful for the Izhiangbo, Ngbo and Effium road and the landmark flyover at Izhiangbo junction both of which have elevated the developmental status of our Local Government Area. With excitement and expectation, we are also thanking you in advance for further things you still plan to do for Ohaukwu people.
"We the people of Ohaukwu Local Government comprising Ngbojeogu, Izhia and Effium hereby unanimously agree and make an undertaking before Your Excellency and leaders of Ebonyi State to stand shoulder to shoulder with you in pursuit of peace, mutual love and coexistence I our state; we will continue to promote peaceful coexistence in our respective communities and will work closely with Your Excellency to attain your vision of crime free and peaceful Ebonyi State," they added.
In their collective prayer, they said: "In furtherance of the security infrastructure to facilitate the operation or quick response by security agents and our local vigilantes, we humbly request/remind Your Excellency as follows:
"The construction of Ngbo Court/Okwo/Otinyi/Umugad road which was part of the matters presented before you the day you visited Umuogudu Akpu Ngbo.
"The construction of 10 kilometers of Effium urban roads which was part of your promise during the May 12th 2018 solidarity Rally at Ohaukwu Local Government Headquarters as well as Effium/Inikiri road to link up Benue State.
"Construction of Nkwo Donkey Market/Amike/135 road, Izhiangbo."
They therefore, assured of their entirely stand with Umahi, both in the day and at night, pledged unalloyed support to his present and future political endeavors for the well-being of the state and the country at large.
