Ebonyi govt receives report on Effuim/Ezza Effuim crisis, frowns at renewed hostilities

The Ebonyi State Government has received report of the Panel of inquiry set up to unravel the remote and immediate causes of the Effium and Ezza Effium intra-communal crises.


The Deputy Governor, Dr. Kelechi Igwe presented the report to the State Executive Council on Wednesday.


Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barr. Uchenna Orji announced this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of this week's State Executive Council Meeting at the Exco Chambers, old Government House, Abakaliki.


Orji said Exco frowned at the return of hostilities to the troubled area leading to attack on Ibeto Group's investment in the area.


He said Exco also condemned the unabated power tussle between the Chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Chief Clement Odah and Chinedu Awo of the State House of Assembly and warned that if they don't retrace their steps they would be stripped of their positions and made to face prosecution.



"Council frowned at the renewed hostilities in that area which led to the attempt to burn down the investment of Ibeto Group in that area. The Governor in the Exco directed the deployment of more Security to the area. Council further directed that some of the know ring leaders be declared wanted as a way to end the hostilities in the area"


The information boss further maintained that the State Government has made more deployment of security personnel to the war prone area to arrest the situation.



The Commissioner also announced that Council during the meeting approved the sum of 1.5 billion naira for empowerment of Ebonyi Women and Youth as part of the #endsars empowerment scheme.


He said efforts are on to raise capacity of prospective beneficiaries to make maximum use of the facility.


The Commissioner also announced the plan of the State Government to roll out a 7 days youth interphase billed to commence on 24th February 2021 to chart a new way forward for youth inclusiveness in governance.


He said the colloquium will target young intellectuals, Industry leaders, students of tertiary institutions, entertainers , social media influencers.


According to the Commissioner, the Committee to ensure the success of the conference is chaired by the Commissioner for Inter Governmental Affairs, Pastor Eze Nwachukwu, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Charles Akpuenika is the Secretary while Commissioners for Information, Education, Business Development, Human Capital Development, SA SMEs, SSA Investment, Mr. Mark Onu, SA Internal Security Urban, Mr. Ben Nwovu, SA Internal Security, Central and EA Emmanuel Nwamgbo are all members.


The Commissioner also announced that International bidding process for the construction of the Abakaliki Ring road was already underway, maintaining that the construction will commence in earnest.


He appealled to Communities to cooperate with the firm to ensure the project becomes a reality.


Exco according to the Commissioner also set up a four member Committee headed by the Chief of Staff, Government House Abakaliki, Dr. Queen Agwu and SA Labour as Secretary with Commissioner for Water Resources and SA Government House as members with the mandate to complete the new Exco Chambers within one month.
