The healthcare reforms of Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Builder Prince Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, have continued to improve access to primary healthcare services in rural communities, with the Ntezi-Aba Health Centre in Echiaba Ward, Ebonyi Local Government Area, emerging as a beneficiary of the administration’s intervention in the health sector.
An on-the-spot assessment of the facility by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Ebere Ania Adaolaedo, and her media team revealed that the health centre is now fully functional, providing essential medical services to residents of the area.
The assessment was aimed at examining the state of healthcare delivery at the grassroots and evaluating the impact of the Nwifuru administration’s People’s Charter of Needs policy on rural healthcare.
According to the team, the facility has witnessed renewed activity, with residents accessing antenatal care, general medical consultations, maternal healthcare and other essential health services.
Speaking during the visit, two health workers, Nurse Ogbonna Eunice Ijeoma and Nurse Uka Egbo Patricia, who spoke on behalf of their colleagues, expressed appreciation to Governor Nwifuru for the intervention, describing it as a significant morale booster for personnel at the centre.
They noted that the improvements had rekindled their enthusiasm for service delivery and contributed to increased patronage by members of the community seeking medical attention.
The nurses also disclosed that the facility provides child healthcare services, including routine immunisation and vaccination, to protect children against preventable diseases and reduce the risk of childhood infections.
The media team observed the delivery of healthcare services at the centre, while Adaolaedo also underwent a routine vital signs check during the visit.
She commended the nurses for their professionalism, attentiveness and compassionate approach to patient care, noting that they provided appropriate health counselling and guidance during the exercise.
The visit also provided an opportunity to interact with nursing mothers who had brought their babies to the facility for medical attention and other healthcare services.
The mothers reportedly expressed satisfaction with the services available at the centre and commended Governor Nwifuru for prioritising the healthcare needs of ordinary residents, particularly women and children in rural communities.
Adaolaedo described the development as evidence of the administration’s commitment to translating its healthcare policies into tangible benefits for the people, particularly those living far from major hospitals and other advanced medical facilities.
She maintained that strengthening primary healthcare centres remained essential to ensuring that rural dwellers could access basic medical services without having to travel long distances or incur additional expenses.
The governor’s health sector reforms, she said, reflected his administration’s determination to bring healthcare closer to the people and improve the overall wellbeing of residents across the state.
She also commended the wife of the governor, Her Excellency, Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Ogbonna Nwifuru, for her contributions to women’s and children’s welfare through the Better Health for Rural Women, Children and Internally Displaced Persons Foundation (BERWO).
According to her, BERWO’s interventions complement the state government’s efforts to improve the health and wellbeing of women and children, especially vulnerable groups across Ebonyi State.
Adaolaedo added that sustained collaboration between the state government, healthcare workers and relevant support organisations would further strengthen the delivery of essential health services at the grassroots.
She expressed optimism that continued investment in primary healthcare infrastructure, personnel and essential medical services would improve health outcomes and enhance the quality of life of rural residents.
The Ntezi-Aba Health Centre’s reported revitalisation, she said, represents an important step towards achieving the vision of the People’s Charter of Needs administration, which places the welfare and needs of citizens at the centre of governance.
She added that the development offered renewed hope to rural communities and reinforced the importance of accessible, affordable and responsive healthcare in building a healthier Ebonyi State.
