Ikwo Council Boss, Charges EB-SOCU Team On Transparency, Fairness In Conditional Cash Transfer Programme

By Our Reporter,

The Executive Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Hon. Chidi Henry Nwode, has charged officials of the Ebonyi State Coordinating Unit (EB-SOCU) to uphold transparency, fairness and accountability in the implementation of the Federal Government’s Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, warning against the wrongful inclusion or omission of any eligible beneficiary.

Nwode, gave the charge on Thursday, when a delegation of EB-SOCU paid him a familiarisation visit at his office in Onuebonyi-Echara, Ikwo LGA headquarters, as part of efforts to reassess beneficiaries, improve targeting and strengthen the implementation of the poverty alleviation initiative.

The delegation was led by Mr. Uche Nwele, Desk Officer, and Mr. Odom Chukwudi Chris, Government Relations Officer (GRO), alongside ten other enumerators.

The Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, a Federal Government intervention designed to provide financial support to vulnerable and less-privileged households, has been ongoing in Ikwo for five months, with the latest exercise aimed at improving its effectiveness and ensuring that assistance reaches the intended beneficiaries.
Speaking during the visit, the EB-SOCU delegation leader, Mr. Uche Nwele, expressed appreciation to the Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Bldr. Prince Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, FNIOB, FCAI, GGCEHF, for supporting the programme and aligning its welfare objectives with his administration's People's Charter of Needs agenda.

Nwele also commended Chairman Nwode for his commitment to the welfare of the team and rural residents, noting that his accessibility, responsiveness and insistence on transparency had contributed significantly to the progress recorded in the programme.

He particularly appreciated the chairman's readiness to address issues raised by the team and provide the necessary support to facilitate the smooth execution of their responsibilities.

Responding, Nwode praised Governor Nwifuru for prioritising the welfare of Ebonyi residents and establishing a leadership framework that places the needs of the people at the centre of governance.

The chairman observed that the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme had brought relief to several households, helping some families overcome pressing financial difficulties while improving the economic circumstances of others.

He commended the EB-SOCU team for its impartiality, sensitivity, diligence and transparency in identifying and compiling the names of prospective beneficiaries. He urged the officials to sustain these standards and remain committed to ensuring that the programme achieves its intended objectives.

Acknowledging that operational challenges could arise in the course of their assignment, Nwode encouraged the team not to allow such constraints to weaken their commitment to effective service delivery.

The Ikwo council boss, however, stressed that no eligible beneficiary, particularly among the poorest and most vulnerable members of society, should be wrongly excluded, just as no ineligible person should be allowed to benefit at the expense of those genuinely in need.

He reaffirmed the local government's commitment to sustained collaboration with EB-SOCU, assuring the team of the council's continued support and cooperation to strengthen the programme's implementation across Ikwo LGA.

The visit concluded with a group photograph featuring the Executive Chairman and members of the EB-SOCU delegation.
