The Ezza Nation in Ebonyi State has declared support for Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The declaration was made during a sensitisation and mobilisation exercise organised by the Ezza Progressive Initiative at the Inyaba Development Centre, where Ezza elders, traditional rulers, youths, women leaders, political office holders and residents gathered to communicate the political position of the clan to communities across Ezza land.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Chairman of the APC in Ebonyi State and leader of the Ezza Progressive Initiative, Hon. Chinedu Alphonsus Nwali, said the decision to support Nwifuru was informed by what he described as the governor's developmental interventions, restoration of peace, improved road access and appointments of Ezza indigenes into government positions.
Nwali also linked the decision to the state's informal zoning arrangement, arguing that supporting Nwifuru's second-term bid would preserve the existing political understanding and, in the group's view, position Ezza for the governorship in 2031.
He therefore called on Ezza people to mobilise across the state and support the governor and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
Similarly, the Coordinator of Inyaba North Development Centre, Hon. Peter Moses, formally declared the community's support for the APC, describing the gathering as “an APC endorsement.”
Moses said the community had resolved to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Nwifuru, senators, members of the House of Representatives and House of Assembly candidates contesting under the APC platform.
Also speaking, Ezza leader, Chief Lazarus Nweru Ogbee, urged Ezza communities to support the APC, describing the political mobilisation as “connecting us back to the national grid” politically.
Ogbee cited what he described as the administration's restoration of peace, granting of autonomy to communities and appointment of Ezza indigenes into prominent government positions as reasons for the clan's support.
Meanwhile, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Power, Hon. Chinedu Awo, said the mobilisation was aimed at securing massive support for Nwifuru's second term, attributing the administration's acceptance in the area to what he described as restored peace.
He said, “We are in support of our government, and we came here to talk to our people, to have one voice and vote for our governor massively for a second term.”
On his part, the paramount Leader of Ezza-Ezekuna Alioma Autonomous Community, Super High Chief Iboke Emmanuel, also formally declared the community's support for Nwifuru and APC candidates, saying, “We, with all the people of Ezza-Ezekuna Alioma Autonomous Community, agree and support that we are going to vote for Governor Nwifuru and all the contestants, all the candidates in APC.”
Others were Commissioner for Water Resources, Chukwu Victor, Prof. Humphrey Nwobashi, Dr. William Alo, Former Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, and immediate past chairman of Ezza North, Chief Ogodo-Ali Nome, Executive Secretary of the Ebonyi State Local Government Pensions Board, Comrade Emeka Nwonu, Barr.Uchenna Otu, general manager, Ebonyi pipe production, described the mobilisation as a strategic political engagement ahead of 2027, urging Ezza people to reciprocate the government’s development efforts, support APC candidates across the ballot, and maintain unity in pursuit of greater political representation and the collective interests of the clan.
