Workers in Ebonyi State have commended Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his administration’s efforts to reform and revitalise the state civil service, expressing optimism that recent appointments to the Ebonyi State Civil Service Commission would further strengthen public service administration.
The workers praised the governor for appointing Lady Virginia Okemini Oketa as Chairman of the commission, alongside Chief Chris Uchaji as Member I, Hon. Ude Aja Donatus as Member II, Hon. Pastor Vincent Awoke as Member III, and Hon. Mrs Lucy Ofefe as Member IV. Mrs Henrietta Ikechukwu-Uro was named Permanent Secretary.
In a congratulatory message celebrating the appointments, the workers described Nwifuru as a worker-friendly governor, commending his choice of personnel to oversee the affairs of the state’s civil service.
They expressed confidence that the newly constituted commission, with its blend of experience and administrative knowledge, would contribute significantly to strengthening the workforce and improving the efficiency of government institutions.
“The workers of Ebonyi State are celebrating Your Excellency’s unique wisdom in appointing Lady Virginia Okemini Oketa as Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, alongside Chief Chris Uchaji, Hon. Ude Aja Donatus, Hon. Pastor Vincent Awoke and Hon. Mrs Lucy Ofefe as members, and Mrs Henrietta Ikechukwu-Uro as Permanent Secretary,” the message stated.
Describing the appointees as experienced and knowledgeable individuals, the workers characterised the team as “gurus at work,” expressing optimism that their collective expertise would bring renewed direction and effectiveness to the commission.
They further applauded the governor for what they described as significant efforts to reform and revive the state workforce, noting that the appointments represented an important step towards repositioning the civil service for greater productivity and improved service delivery.
“Your Excellency, you have reformed and revived the workforce,” the message declared.
The workers also maintained that the governor’s approach to governance was attracting commendation, describing his administration’s reform agenda as part of a broader effort to reshape the state’s development trajectory and establish a lasting legacy for future generations.
They expressed hope that the new leadership of the Civil Service Commission would build on the administration’s initiatives by promoting professionalism, discipline, accountability and a stronger commitment to public service.
The commission plays a critical role in the administration of the state civil service, particularly in matters relating to personnel management, appointments, promotions, discipline and the maintenance of professional standards, in line with its statutory responsibilities.
The workers’ commendation comes amid growing expectations that ongoing reforms will translate into tangible improvements in staff welfare, career progression, workplace efficiency and the overall performance of government institutions.
They concluded their message with goodwill wishes to Governor Nwifuru, the government and people of Ebonyi State, as well as the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
While the workers have welcomed the appointments and expressed confidence in the new commission, the long-term success of the reforms will depend on the commission’s ability to deliver measurable improvements in workforce management, employee welfare, administrative efficiency and the quality of public services across Ebonyi State.
