Ebonyi Stakeholders' Political Summit: Orji Advocates Justice, Equity, Peace Ahead of 2027 Polls

...Says summit should produce a Charter of Peace to guide political actors beyond the elections

By Celestine Okeh,

Former Ebonyi State Commissioner, Hon. Barr. Orji Uchenna Orji, has called for a renewed commitment to the core values upon which Ebonyi State was founded, urging political leaders and citizens to embrace justice, equity, peace and inclusive dialogue as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Orji described the proposed Ebonyi State Stakeholders' Political Summit as a historic opportunity to reinforce the ideals that define Ebonyi as the "Salt of the Nation" while promoting a peaceful and orderly political transition.

According to him, the summit should transcend partisan interests and serve as a unifying platform where political leaders, elders, youths, women and other stakeholders can engage in sincere conversations about the future of the state.

He stressed that values such as the rule of law, honesty, selfless service, patriotism, tolerance, truth and respect for human dignity must remain the foundation of political leadership and decision-making in Ebonyi.

Orji noted that bringing stakeholders together under one platform would help strengthen trust across political divides, deepen democratic engagement and encourage leaders to prioritise the collective interest of the state over personal or partisan ambitions.

He further argued that sustained dialogue before, during and after the 2027 elections would help minimise political tensions, prevent violence and create an atmosphere conducive to credible and peaceful elections.

To achieve this, the former commissioner proposed that the summit should adopt a Charter of Peace that would serve as a practical framework for guiding political actors, promoting responsible conduct and reinforcing peaceful coexistence throughout the electoral process.

Beyond the 2027 polls, Orji advocated the establishment of a permanent stakeholders' forum that would institutionalise continuous dialogue on political transition, governance and other issues affecting the state's development, rather than limiting consultations to election periods or times of crisis.

He maintained that such a forum would provide an enduring mechanism for conflict prevention, consensus-building and preserving the shared values that have shaped Ebonyi State since its creation.

As momentum builds toward the 2027 general elections, Orji's intervention places fresh emphasis on justice, equity, unity and peaceful political engagement as essential pillars for safeguarding Ebonyi's democratic stability and long-term development.
