The Ebonyi State Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Ogbuefi Zaccheaus Ifeuwabundidi, has resigned his membership of the opposition party and declared his support for Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Ifeuwabundidi conveyed his decision in a resignation letter dated October 18, 2026, addressed to the PDP National Chairman through the party’s state and ward chairmen in Ebonyi State.
In the letter, he explained that his resignation followed extensive consultations and personal reflection, formally ending his involvement with the PDP in the state.
The former state secretary recalled that he served the party in two capacities, first as an appointed State Secretary and subsequently as the substantive State Secretary after emerging through the party’s state congress.
He noted that throughout his tenure, he remained committed to the PDP constitution, the promotion of internal unity and the advancement of the party’s political fortunes in Ebonyi State.
Ifeuwabundidi also expressed gratitude to members of the State Working Committee and State Executive Committee, as well as party leaders, elders, stakeholders and members, for their cooperation, support and confidence during his time in office.
He described his service to the party as a privilege, acknowledging the contributions of those who worked alongside him in discharging his responsibilities.
However, announcing his next political direction, the former PDP chieftain disclosed that he had aligned with a grassroots political group known as the Active Mobilizers to commence statewide mobilisation in support of Governor Nwifuru’s re-election in 2027.
According to him, the group is poised to strengthen grassroots engagement and rally support for the governor and his political team ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
His declaration represents a significant political realignment, given his former position as the administrative head of the PDP in Ebonyi State. His decision to leave the party and support the incumbent governor signals a shift in his political allegiance ahead of the 2027 electoral contest.
The move also positions Ifeuwabundidi to channel his political experience and grassroots connections towards the mobilisation campaign for Nwifuru’s second term in office.
In his resignation letter, he requested that the PDP formally acknowledge his decision and undertake the necessary administrative procedures to conclude his membership and service to the party.
Copies of the letter were also forwarded to the PDP National Secretary and the party’s South-East Zonal Chairman.
