The Member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and Chairman, House Committee on Reformatory Institutions, Rt. Hon. (Comrade) Chinedu Ogah, OON, on Saturday, August 22, 2026, cast his vote at Polling Unit 002, Edukwu Edo Playground, Ndiagu Amagu II, during the Ebonyi State Local Government Elections.

Speaking shortly after accreditation and voting, the federal lawmaker commended the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for his leadership, commitment to grassroots democracy and the peaceful atmosphere that characterised the exercise across the state.

Ogah noted that the peaceful conduct of the election reflects the Governor’s determination to strengthen democratic institutions and ensure that Ebonyians freely exercise their constitutional right to choose their leaders at the grassroots.
He also commended the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC), security agencies and the people of Ebonyi State for their roles in ensuring a peaceful, orderly and credible election.

“Democracy is strengthened when citizens freely exercise their right to vote in an atmosphere of peace and confidence. I commend His Excellency, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for providing the leadership and conducive environment for this election, as well as EBSIEC, our security agencies and the people of Ebonyi State for ensuring that the exercise reflects our collective commitment to peaceful and responsible grassroots democracy.”

Ogah congratulated the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates who emerged victorious across Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency, particularly the Chairmanship candidates for Ikwo and Ezza South Local Government Areas, Hon. Engr. Chidi Nwode and Hon. (Barr.) Chinedu Mkpuma, as well as the successful councillorship candidates.

“This victory is not merely a triumph for individuals or a political party; it is a mandate from the people and, more importantly, a call to service. I urge our newly elected leaders to justify the confidence reposed in them by delivering responsive, inclusive and people-centred governance.”

The lawmaker further commended the APC for its mobilisation, discipline and commitment to peaceful democratic participation, noting that the orderly atmosphere witnessed across the state demonstrates the political maturity and democratic consciousness of Ebonyians.

He urged the newly elected council leaders to regard their victory as a responsibility to serve, unite and deliver, stressing that the true measure of electoral success is not victory at the polls, but the positive impact governance makes in the lives of the people.

The 2026 Ebonyi State Local Government Elections mark an important step toward constituting new leadership across the state’s 13 Local Government Areas and 171 wards, with elected Chairmen and Councillors expected to provide responsive, accountable and people-oriented governance at the grassroots.
