Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State on Friday, distributed 31 operational vehicles for security agencies and announced the deployment of drones and other advanced surveillance equipment to strengthen the fight against crime across the state.

The governor made the disclosure during the official distribution and inauguration of the vehicles at the Government House, Centenary City, Abakaliki, as part of activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.

Speaking at the event, Nwifuru said his administration had invested heavily in security infrastructure and technology to enhance intelligence gathering, surveillance and rapid response to criminal activities.

He noted that the operational vehicles and security gadgets were procured to support security agencies in their efforts to protect lives and property, describing security as the foundation upon which governance and development thrive.

According to him, the state government has acquired drones and other sophisticated security equipment capable of assisting security operatives in tracking criminal activities and improving intelligence-driven operations.

“We have spent huge resources to procure security equipment and operational vehicles because the most important responsibility of government is the security of lives and property. We have drones and other security equipment that help us in combating crime and enhancing security across the state,” the governor said.

Nwifuru commended the various security agencies operating in Ebonyi State for their professionalism, commitment and sacrifices in maintaining peace and order, stating that the state had been fortunate to work with dedicated officers and commanders.

He specifically praised the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigeria Customs Service, the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigerian Correctional Service for their contributions to the state's security successes.

The governor recalled that when he assumed office in May 2023, the state faced several security concerns, but said the situation had improved considerably due to the collaboration among security agencies and support from residents.

He also attributed the promotion of many officers who served in Ebonyi State to their exceptional performance and dedication to duty, noting that several commanders and officers advanced in rank while serving in the state.

Nwifuru urged security personnel to remain vigilant and intensify efforts against criminal elements, warning that security threats continue to evolve and require constant preparedness.

“Be more vigilant, do not relax. Based on the incidences and the structures already put in place, remain alert and continue to confront criminal elements. Let our enemies not have their way,” he charged.

The governor further advised security agencies to remain professional and impartial as political activities ahead of future elections gather momentum.

He acknowledged that political actors may make allegations against security institutions during the electoral season but urged officers to focus on facts and their constitutional responsibilities.

“This is a political period. There will be allegations from different quarters. Remain professional, face the reality and deal with the facts. Continue to carry out your duties without fear or favour,” he said.

Nwifuru also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, the Inspector-General of Police and other heads of security agencies for their support and commitment to peace and security in Ebonyi State.

He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to providing security agencies with the resources and support necessary to effectively discharge their duties.

The ceremony ended with the formal inauguration and commissioning of the 31 operational vehicles for deployment to various security agencies across the state.
