Footprints Of Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa In Power, Energy And Water Resources

In many rural communities, development is often measured not by promises made during campaigns, but by the simple things that make everyday life easier ; clean water flowing close to homes, lights shining through the night, and communities feeling safer, healthier, and more hopeful.

For many families across Ikwo South Constituency, these necessities were once daily struggles. Mothers and children walked long distances in search of water. Darkness settled heavily over villages at night, limiting movement, slowing business activities, and deepening concerns about security.

But over the last three years, a quiet transformation has continued to unfold.
Under the representation of Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa, Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly and representative of Ikwo South Constituency, deliberate efforts have been made to confront some of these everyday realities through meaningful interventions in power, energy, and water resources.

Understanding that access to clean water is not a privilege but a necessity of life, Chief Odunwa embarked on the drilling of both motorized and manual boreholes in some villages across the constituency. For many residents, these projects brought more than water; they brought relief.

Where people once depended on distant streams and uncertain water sources, communities now have easier access to clean and safer water for drinking, cooking, and household use. The burden on women and children, often the ones responsible for fetching water, has gradually reduced. What once consumed hours of daily stress has become less of a struggle.

And with cleaner water comes something even greater; healthier communities. Families are now better positioned to maintain hygiene and reduce the risks associated with unsafe water sources. In many ways, these boreholes stand not merely as physical structures, but as symbols of care for human life and dignity.

Yet, the story of transformation does not end with water. As daylight fades in many communities, another intervention quietly comes alive. Across villages that make up Ikwo South Constituency, solar-powered street lights continue to illuminate roads and public spaces, reflecting a commitment to safer and more connected communities. What used to be dark paths and silent corners now glow with light.

For traders, it means extended hours of economic activity. For residents, it means easier movement at night. For students, it offers a better atmosphere for evening reading. And for communities as a whole, it strengthens the feeling of safety and social connection.

The consistent availability and maintenance of these solar lights speak to something deeper; an understanding that development is not only about grand projects, but about solving the ordinary challenges that affect everyday people. Perhaps this is what leadership truly means: seeing problems not from a distance, but through the eyes of the people who live with them every day.

As June 13, 2026 marks three years of stewardship for Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa as Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, his footprints in the area of power, energy, and water resources remain visible in the lives of ordinary citizens; in the child who no longer walks miles for water, in the trader who closes shop later because the streets are lit, and in the communities gradually experiencing the comfort of basic amenities once thought distant.

For the people of Ikwo South Constituency, these are not merely projects. They are daily reminders that responsive leadership can truly make life better. To God be the glory.

Chief Press Secretary to the Rt. Hon. Speaker.
