The Okporojo and Amasiri boundary demarcation committee has concluded preliminary studies which encompasses the geological survey and points taking, of the conflicting boundary line of the two warring communities using GPS method to establish a common boundary.
Speaking shortly at the of three days of boundary tracing ,point taking and laying of claims and counter claims by the two communities, the chairman of the committee and Commissioner for border peace and conflict resolution,
Professor Paul Awo Nwobashi, said the committee has painstakingly taking the necessary points of conflict.
Nwobashi assured that when once the report is concluded and get the Governor's approval, the physical demarcation would commence which will ursher in permanent peace in the troubled area.
He urged the leaders of both communities to cooperate with the committee to deliver on the mandate given to it by the state government.
The Chairman expressed appreciation to the Governor for choosing them and making everything available for the committee to succeed.
"This is a committee set up by His Excellency, our governor, on the 6th of March, 2026,
on the demarcation of boundary between Edda and Amasiri.
"The committee has been working and God being on our side, we continue to work.
"His Excellency the Governor has made everything possible for us to do all the preliminary studies of that place, that is by taking a survey, a geological survey of that place, a preliminary survey of that place that is, going about taking points using GPS method to get all the necessary points, the point of conflict, areas where people are interested and struggling over.
We take it and then we match it with the argument.
"what we need to do now is when the printout of the gps
software is done, we will match the argument against the software that we have done. the argument is the people's demand the people's wish against that other person and then we find out the truth, the truth must come out and you know in boundary dispute especially where people have a vast land, you know is always very difficult, claims and counter claims; i was living here, i was not living here, my father was living there, my mother and other things, but this will help us because there are key places, key landmarks
like the swamp like old buildings, like schools and all those things that have been there and have been abandoned, we use those landmarks to know exactly those claims whether they are true or false so we're going to do the write up on it and be able to come up with a report to his excellency so that we'll start the action, and the action is actually the physical demarcation of the area after the survey.
"We have always talked to them to stay quiet, that their interest is our interest. We make sure everybody wants peace and peace must reign, in the people's charter of needs, peace is always number one, for us to be educated, for us to have good agriculture, good roads.
When peace is not there, there will be no development.
So we have always talked to them to look at peace as number one, he concluded.
On his part, the secretary of the committee, Chief Sunday Oyibe appealed to the two warring communities to respect every steps taken so far by the committee assuring that both communities will smile home the end of the demarcation exercise.
"I want to appeal to the two
communities to respect what we have done today. Government is going to look at all the evidences we have taken, we're also going to invite you before we conclude our decisions. What we are assuring you is that every community will smile home, because government has no interest in any particular community, we are going to do the needful to make sure that peace reigns here.
The coordinator Edda North development Center, Mrs Cecilia Nkama Nkamaude expressed optimism that peace will be restored between the two brother communities. She assured the committee of her full cooperation to ensure that the needed peace is restored in the area..
"I am sure peace will return between Amasri and Eda.
We have been living in peace.
We have been living as brothers and sisters.
This land doesn't worth sharing of blood, So anything that could be done for peace to return back to our land between the two brothers, we're going to do it.
And by the special grace of God, through the effort of our founding fathers and our peace loving governor,
this peace must return back so that we will continue to live as brothers and sisters.".
Elder Sunday Osim, Chairman of Amachara Amasiri, thanked the committee and State Government for the peace and promised that he will continue to support every effort geared towards the restoration of peace in the area.
