Ebonyi-born tech guru, Mr. Chijioke Ekoyo Prosper has launched Spellamart, an AI-powered community marketplace designed to transform everyday buying and selling in local markets.
The platform, which is currently rolling out in Abakaliki, connects local vendors directly with customers, allowing users to discover products, place orders, and complete purchases seamlessly from their phones.
Speaking at the launch of the platform in Abakaliki, Mr Prosper who owns Spella ICT Hub, said the innovation aims to reduce the stress of traditional market shopping while helping vendors increase visibility and daily sales.
"For years, many small business owners in Abakaliki have relied on informal tools like WhatsApp to manage their businesses.
"While effective to a degree, these channels limit growth due to restricted reach, unstructured product listings, and difficulty handling multiple customer interactions. Spellamart addresses these challenges by introducing a more organized and scalable approach to local commerce".
Explaining further, he said the goal was not to replace the existing market system but to enhance it.
“We are building a system that works with the market, not against it. Vendors keep doing what they do, but now they can reach more customers and operate more efficiently,” he said.
He adds that with Spellamart, vendors can onboard easily, list their products, receive orders, and coordinate deliveries or pickups. Buyers, on the other hand, can browse multiple vendors, compare options, and shop conveniently without physically moving from stall to stall.
"The startup has already begun onboarding vendors across major markets in Abakaliki, with an initial target of onboarding 100 vendors within the first few weeks. Early projections indicate that vendors on the platform could gain exposure to thousands of potential customers daily.
"Beyond convenience, Spellamart is positioned as a step toward digitizing local commerce in Southeastern Nigeria, creating a bridge between traditional markets and modern technology.
"There are also plans to integrate advanced payment options, including digital and blockchain-based systems, as the platform evolves".
With this launch, Chijioke Ekoyo Prosper joins a new generation of innovators building practical, high-impact solutions tailored to local realities.
