Anambra State House of Assembly has confirmed all sixteen Commissioner nominees presented by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
The confirmation followed the adoption of the report of the Assembly’s Screening Committee during plenary on Wednesday in Awka.
Presenting the report, the Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the Committee on Screening and Electoral Matters, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye, said the sixteen nominees met the requirements to serve as members of the State Executive Council, just as the committee conducted a rigorous two-day screening exercise and found all nominees proficient and suitably qualified.
The confirmed Commissioners and their portfolios are:
1. Agriculture – Dr Ben Chuks Odoemena
2. Budget and Economic Planning– Mr Chukwukadibia Okoye
3. Culture, Entertainment and Tourism – Mr Udoji Amedu
4. Education – Dr Ekene Ogugua
5. Environment – Dr Clem Aguiyi
6. Health – Dr Afam Obidike
7. Information and Value Reorientation – Dr Law Mefor
8. Lands – Prof. Offornze Amucheazi, SAN
9. Local Government and Community Affairs – Barr Vin Ezeaka
10. Petroleum and Mineral Resources – Prof. Charles Ofoegbu
11. Physical Planning and Urban Development – Barr Chijioke Oseloka Ojukwu
12. Power – Engr Casmir Chinenye Agummadu
13. Works and Infrastructure – Arc. Okey Ezeobi
14. Transport – Hon. Eddy Ibuzo
15. Women Affairs and Social Development – Mrs Esther Onyekesi
16. Youth Development and Sports – Mr Patrick Agha
After the confirmation, the Speaker, Rt Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze said the day mark the beginning of a new era for the state, noting that the confirmation was more than a constitutional routine and also about leadership and service to the people.
He urged the Commissioners to work towards improving the lives of every citizen, be prudent in their duties, keep their offices open, and avoid unnecessary bureaucracy.
In a vote of thanks, the Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Dr Mefor, on behalf of others, expressed gratitude to the Anambra State House of Assembly for the thorough and transparent screening process, and for finding them worthy of the trust, while thanking Governor Soludo for the confidence reposed in them by nominating them to serve the people of Anambra State.
