Five Months To Exit: IKwo Council Boss Inaugurates Mega City Implementation Committee

In a dramatic turn of event and in keeping with the legacy mantra policies of his administration, the Executive Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Hon. Barr Sunday Nwankwo on Tuesday 14th April 2026 made another remarkable step towards the realisation of the proposed Ikwo mega city project five months to the end of his administration. This followed the official Inauguration of the satellite city implementation committee at the Council Headquarters Onuebonyi Echara. 

Inaugurating the committee, the Chairman noted that members were carefully selected across different communities and segments in Ikwo Noyo clan. He emphasised that their assignment required commitment and unbiased dedication to achieving the legacy project of the Ikwo mega city. He tasked the committee to fully implement the mega city project as contained in the master plan, starting with the market and residential areas.

The Council Chairman appealed to the people of Ndufu Alike and Ndufu Echara to avoid encroaching into the Local Government land which has been surveyed and marked for the satellite city project. He stressed that the mega city project which will have a market, shops, residential buildings and other facilities that make it a beauty to behold, will enhance the economy of the local government, attract investors and more development to the area.

Speaking on behalf of other members, the committee Chairman, Surveyor Nicholas Ogah thanked the Council Chairman for finding them worthy to serve in such a tasking assignment. He also appealed for the cooperation of the host communities, noting that they would be the major beneficiaries of the development that will accompany the new mega city. 

Surveyor Ogah assured the Chairman and the people of Ikwo that the committee will not leave any stone unturned in achieving the desired result.

Other speakers including the deputy Principal Secretary to Ebonyi State Governor; Hon. Okey Oreke, former House of Assembly member; Hon. James Alaka,  Secretary of the Committee; TPL Uche Nwafor and the former President of Ndufu Alike Development Union; Mr. Chibuike Igwe commended the Initiative of Ikwo Council Boss, describing the satellite city as a  timely and worthwhile project. They appealed for the relocation of families that might be affected by the development, and assured the Local Government and members of the committee that their people will give them the needed support to achieve the set targets.

In a vote of thanks, the APC Chairmanship Candidate in the forthcoming Local Government Area election, Hon. Chidi Henry Nwode thanked the Council Chairman for his foresight in constituting the mega city project implementation committee, which he said will further give Ikwo LGA a facelift. He noted that the project will be sustained beyond Barr. Nwankwo led administration.
