LG Polls: EBSIEC Makes Clarifications On Labour Party's Allegations

By Celestine Okeh,

The Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) said, it has taken notice of allegations of disenfranchisement made by the Labour Party, Ebonyi State chapter, circulating in various media outlets, and wishes to clarify the following points to set the record straight:

In a statement issued on Thursday, and signed by the EBSIEC Chairman, Enyi Patrick, reads in part;

"The Labour Party did visit the EBSIEC office, but their representative's name did not match the list of authorized representatives forwarded by INEC. They were advised to reconcile their list of executives, as EBSIEC won't harmonize party leadership lists or interfere in internal party matters.

"During their second visit, EBSIEC reiterated that it won't compromise its policies or procedures; internal party issues should be resolved outside the commission. The party was reminded to adhere to EBSIEC's guidelines and regulations.

"EBSIEC reminds all parties that February 3, 2026, is the deadline for Local Government Area election primaries. The commission is committed to conducting free, fair, and transparent elections in Ebonyi State.

"In light of the above clarifications, the public is advised to disregard Labour Party's allegations as baseless and misleading. EBSIEC remains dedicated to upholding electoral integrity and ensuring a smooth electoral process".

Recall that the leadership of Labour Party in the state accused EBSIEC of  doing everything to exclude them from participating in the forthcoming Local Government election in the state.
