Council Polls; Ikwo Stakeholders Adopt APC's Chidi Nwode As Sole Chairmanship Aspirant

By Our Reporter,

Ahead of the forthcoming 2026 Local Government Council Election in Ebonyi State, Stakeholders of Ikwo LGA on 12th January, 2026, adopted Hon.  Chidi Nwode as the APC Consensus Aspirant for the election. This was the major outcome of the stakeholders meeting presided over by the Executive Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. Sunday Basil Nwankwo.

The well-attended gathering brought together former and serving political office holders, captains of industry, royal fathers, women organisations, youth groups, and other critical stakeholders across Ikwo LGA.

Major Deliberations at the meeting focused the ongoing APC membership e- registration, ‌PVC registration, revalidation, and transfer in preparation for the 2027 general elections, the forthcoming ward councillorship elections and
‌the formal presentation of Engr. Chidi Henry Nwode as the consensus and anointed candidate for the chairmanship position.

In his address at the meeting, the Council Chairman, Barr. Sunday Basil Nwankwo charged leaders at all levels to embrace the spirit of oneness and shun the “pull-him-down” syndrome, which he noted has often led to setbacks and disunity in some parts of Ikwo. He further called for stronger synergy between party members and their village chairmen, stressing that such collaboration would eliminate divisions and usher in development and growth.

The meeting was marked by healthy engagement, as all issues raised were addressed with fairness and openness, allowing for interactive and fruitful contributions. These discussions were geared towards mobilising grassroots participation across the hinterlands of Ikwo and fostering peace, unity, love, and sustainable development within the local government.

Meanwhile, political wards in Ikwo LGA that are yet to reach a consensus on their councillorship candidates were encouraged to do so amicably and promptly to ensure a smooth and hitch-free electioneering process in the forthcoming council election.
