By Celestine Okeh,
It was a Royal glamour at the palace of His Royal Highness, Eze Michael Nwankwo, the Ezeudo 11 of Amike Izhia in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi, as he marked his second year on the throne, bestowing Chieftaincy titles to 27 deserving sons and daughters of Ebonyi and outside the State.
Prominent among those honoured is a famous business mogul and philanthropist of note, High Chief Barr Tochukwu Ogalegu, T-MAN who was honoured with Chieftaincy title of OHABUENYII 1 of Ohaukwu.
The Chieftaincy title came as a mark of honor to his numerous contribution to community development, youth engagement and empowerment, securing of Federal jobs for over 500 young Ebonyi graduates, payment of hospital bills to the indigents among other interventions.
He pledged to continue to do those things that earned him the honour,
disclosing that he Is Currently Constructing a 2.5 KM Road that would be completed soon.
"I've been engaging the youths on scholarship.By engaging them on free WAEC registration. I've given up to 500 jobs, and you can see that they are building the roads here.
"I'm about to construct a 2.5-kilometer road for the community. This is just the beginning. There are great needs. I want to tell you by this time next month or February, I must be done with the road construction." Ogalagu said.
This recognition by the Eze Udo 1 of Amike Izhia on him is a testament to his proven philanthropic gesture, which has endeared him to the masses, who came in their large number to celebrate him, with some of the groups bearing several banners earnestly calling him to contest the election to represent them in the Federal House of Representatives in 2027.
Receiving the chieftaincy title, Chief Ogalagu called on well-meaning individuals in his community to imbibe the culture of giving, as well as urged them to secure their community by engaging the youths productively and improve their lives to better the society.
"My Bible makes me understand that we should always help each other. That is the scripture. That's why I'm doing these things. And two, if one remembers that one is going to die one day, all this wealth you are accumulating—it's the impact you create on society that matters.
"What I want to tell them is that they should change the ways of their life. They should try to help the government in policing the environment. In policing, the environment means engaging the youths.
"Engaging them in federal jobs, engaging them in football competition as I have been doing. Because this is my football competition, I have been doing it annually. The purpose is just to harness talent. And I want to tell you by this time, in the next five or ten years' time, we'll have the Kanu Nwankwo of our time, the Jay Jay Okocha of our time.
"I don't think if the youths are engaged, there will be a robbery case. You can see with the football competition we have been engaging the youth. The issue of insecurity is less in the society now. I can tell you that when the youth are engaged, you are helping the government to police the environment.
"You cannot tell me that as President Tinubu or Governor Nwifuru, you become a governor and you are not helping your own community. You should be able to bring the message down home. You should be able to assist the government.
"That is why they say security is not a one-man business. It is our collective effort. It doesn't mean that you can carry a gun and start chasing people away. It is engaging the youth, telling them that the ways they are taking are not the ways of life." Chief Ogalagu maintained.
Notable among the well-wishers who came to felicitate with him is the former Ohaukwu council chairman, Barrister Clement Omekannaya Odah, who eulogized him as a philanthropist whose works cannot be measured by any chieftaincy title and commended the community for recognizing him.
"Before your community will recognize you, before any king will recognize you by giving you the chieftaincy title, you must have distinguished yourself. You must have shown commitment to development, human capital building, social welfare, and social responsibility.
"Today, in the Ohaukwu Local Government area, this young man by the name of Chief Barrister Tochukwu Ogalagu, Ikemba 1 of Ohaukwu, was conferred with the brand new title of Ohabuenyi 1 of the Ohaukwu Kingdom. Very well deserved. He's a great man. Almost every family in Ohaukwu today can point to one thing or the other he's done to them." Odah added.
