Agom Eze, Leader Who Valued Diverse Opinions --Emegha


The Ebonyi State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha on Friday joined other prominent Nigerians to pay last respect to Late HRH Ezeogo Elder Dr. Agom Eze, OON, the Igboezekuna 1 of Igboeze Onicha.

Dr. Agom Eze, one of the founding fathers of Ebonyi State, and former Chairman, Ebonyi State Traditional Rulers Council died in February at the age of 92.

He was a commissioner for Industry, Trade and Co-operatives, and Education and Information in the Old Imo State.

He also Chaired the Governing Council, Abia State University,Uturu.

He was equally the pioneer Chairman Governing Council, Ebonyi State University college, Abakaliki.

He was easily the first Ebonyi man to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Economics. He achieved that feat in October 1966 from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland.

Commenting on his life, Chief Emegha described the late royal father as a highly educated leader who valued the opinions of others.

According to him "late Dr Agom Eze was a prominent figure in the struggle for the creation of Ebonyi State. He is a leader who liked to listen to the opinions of others. His impacts are many, and they are permanently etched in the sand of time. May his soul rest in peace" 

Chief Emegha enumerated some of his legacies as a public servant, a founding father of Ebonyi State and Chairman of Ebonyi State Traditional Rulers Council, describing them as enduring.

He urged the immediate family, the people of Onicha Igboeze and Ebonyi State in general to be consoled by the impactful life Dr. Agom lived while on earth.

The funeral was attended by very eminent Nigerians such as Ebonyi State Governor, His Excellency Rt.Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, who was represented by his deputy, Princess Patricia Onyemaechi Obila; Former Senate President, Chief Anyim Pius Anyim; First Civilian Governor of Ebonyi State, Dr.Sam Egwu; and former Governor Martin Elechi.

Others are Senator Chris Nwankwo; Senator Sunni Ogbuoji; immediate past Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Dr. Kelechi Igwe; Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu;Chief Julius Ama Orji; Hon. Darlington Okereke and former Deputy Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, RT. Hon. Odefa Obasi Odefa.

It's important to note that the governments of Imo and Abia State were also represented at the occasion.
