The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, has called for closer cooperation between the State Party leadership and National Assembly members from Ebonyi State. He made this appeal during a strategic meeting between the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party and members of the National Assembly held in Abakaliki.
Chief Emegha explained that the meeting was deliberately convened because of its importance to the unity and growth of the party. He noted that the discussion was centered on three key agendas: appreciation of the lawmakers, recognition of their loyalty to the Governor, and a call for more support to the party.
> “This meeting is not a coincidence. It is because of its great importance to the unity and prosperity of our party. We are very proud of your performances and how you have represented Ebonyi State at the National Assembly. You have shown that Ebonyi is not relegated,” he stated.
He commended the lawmakers for their cordial relationship with Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, describing their loyalty and support to the Governor as highly commendable.
"“The Governor is the leader of the party in the state. Your constant presence and support gives him strength and encouragement. From the early stage of your time in the National Assembly, we saw unity and togetherness like never before. Today, Ebonyi has one united house,” he added.
Chief Emegha also reminded the lawmakers that running of the party is a shared responsibility, noting that more support such as vehicles and regular financial assistance is needed to run party activities effectively.
"This party belongs to all of us. Apart from the one bus donated by the Governor, we have no other. We appeal for your support, especially with buses and other assistance, to help us run the party better,” he appealed.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Barr. Onyekachi Nwaebonyi (Ebonyi North), thanked the party leadership and assured them of their continued loyalty.
“We are aware that whatever we are today, the party made us. Out of millions of Ebonyians, nine of us were chosen to serve. We can never take this platform for granted,” he said.
Senator Nwaebonyi highlighted various developmental efforts of the lawmakers in their various constituencies, such as educational support and infrastructural projects, promising that their scorecards will soon be presented to the party.
On the party’s request for buses and monthly support, he assured them that a response will come soon, while stressing the importance of mobilizing votes from the grassroots to strengthen Ebonyi’s political influence in the national politics.
The member representing Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Uguru, disclosed that the National Assembly members were already deliberating on tangible support for the party before this meeting.
“Before the end of November, the party will receive brand new bus from us,” he promised.
Similarly, Rt. Hon. Joseph Nwaobashi (Ishielu/Ezza North Federal Constituency) appreciated the party leadership for accepting him back after his brief exit, affirming his renewed commitment to the APC. He praised Governor Nwifuru’s progressive leadership, describing it as inspiring and worthy of support.
Rt. Hon. Idu Igariwey (Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency) said his support for the Governor’s administration is based on the genuine development agenda he observed.
“I saw a government that is genuinely concerned about the development of the state and the welfare of the people. That is why I made myself available to support the administration,” he explained.
Senator Ken Eze (Ebonyi Central) also reaffirmed the lawmakers’ unwavering loyalty to the party.
“We are products of the party. Whatever the party wants, we are prepared to provide. Nothing will compromise our loyalty because we still have ambitions and must remain committed,” he declared.
Although a few members of the National Assembly were absent, they were fully represented, as they were attending a Presidential function in Umuahia.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with both the party leadership and the National Assembly members reaffirming their unity, mutual respect, and commitment to the growth of the APC in Ebonyi State.
