Philanthropist cum succour giver, Chief Mrs Modester Uzoamka Nwogbaga, popularly known as 'TALK NA DO' over the weekend flagged off a Multi million naira empowerment program for indigent people, widows and less privileged in Ebonyi State.
The event which took place at her Abofia resident, Ebonyi Local Government Area of the state, had in attendance Government functionaries, Party stawalts, business mugul, community leaders, women and youth groups, witnessed the empowerment of over 400 persons in various categories.
Speaking to mamoth crowd at the event, Chief Mrs. Nwogbaga said the empowerment was to support the effort of Governor Francis Nwifuru in ameliorating the suffering of the people. He appreciated the Governor for prioritizing the welfare and well-being of the people. She affirmed that her empowerment initiative was aimed at complementing the governor’s efforts in supporting the less privileged in society.
She dolled out cash gifts, wheelchairs for persons with disabilities, food items including bags of rice, cartons of noodles, and wrappers, and placed some beneficiaries on a monthly salary scheme worth over 60million naira.
The State Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Chief Stanley Emegha, commended her for the magnitude of the empowerment. “When she told me about this plan, I didn’t expect it to be this impactful. This should be a challenge to others, especially those who are doing business with the government or holding contracts. We must all support the efforts of the governor and complement the work of the state government” he said.
Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Goddy Ogbaga, congratulated Chief Mrs. Nwogbaga for her consistent commitment to uplifting the less privileged. “Today’s event is a very special one, and we are glad to be part of it.” he said. He also urged the beneficiaries to use the cash gifts judiciously.
On his part, the Chairman of Ebonyi Local Government Area and ALGON Chairman, Ebonyi state, Prince Chinedu Uburu, also praised the initiative, urging the philanthropist not to be discouraged by critics. “Some may say you’re seeking a political position, but ignore them. We say thank you, keep doing good, remembering the less privilege, God will continue to protect you because you have the mind of giving.”
Some of the beneficiaries, John Lekpa of St Vincent's old people's home, Mrs Rose Nwibo among others, described the empowerment as life-changing, praying for God’s continued blessings upon Madam Talk n Do for her kindness.
The event was also used to launch a support group, 'TALK NA DO'4 FON' which is meant to be used to galvanize grassroot support for Governor Francis Nwifuru's administration.
Earlier in a mass to signal the beginning of the event, Rev Fr Anthony Ifagwu, admonished Christian to indulge in act of Charity, citing the biblical Dorcas, who was brought back to life due to cry of those she gave arms to. The clergy commended Mrs Modester Uzoamka Nwogbaga for identifying with the needy, stressing that her reward will be bountiful.
