Commissioner for Information and State Orientation in the state, Jude Okpor disclosed this on Saturday at a press briefing on the outcome of the state executive council meeting held on Friday.
He noted that Governor Francis Nwifuru Chairman of the council has resolved to complete the project which was conceived by the civilian Governor of the state, Sam Egwu.
"On the 17th day of March, 2025, the Ebonyi State Executive Council resolved to conduct an integrit test on the earlier proposed Trade Centre, Presco Junction, Abakaliki, to ascertain its present structural status. In furtherance of the above, the Honourable Commissioner for Infrastructure for Concession, Engr. Ogbonnaya Obasi Abara presented to Exco the comprehensive report of the integrity test conducted by independent experts, which gave the building a clean bill of health.
"A part of the report reads: "Based on our findings, the investigated building is stable and safe for use at the time of this investigation."
"In view of the development, the Council resolved to reconstruct and complete the project. Exco also constituted an inter-ministerial Exco committee headed by Engr. Ogbonnaya Obasi Abara with a charge to return to the building and ensure its speedy completion.
"The Chairman of the Council, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, who received this news with utmost delight, also expressed his joy that the enormous resources of the state already sunk into the building started twenty years ago, will not be wasted. He further expressed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the long abandoned project.
"Recall that on July 1, 2024, EXCO approved a redesigned drawing of the building. The state-of-the-art complex on completion is to house the Trade Centre, Ebonyi Hotel, and other commercial services that will create jobs, increase the state investment potential, boost economic growth and increase revenue generation of the state", he said.
