Senate Deputy Chief Whip Doles Out 40m Scholarship To Indigent Students

Senator onyebuchi Peter Nwebonyi,
the Senate Deputy Chief Whip and Senator representing Ebonyi North  Senatorial Zone, on Friday, awarded scholarship of N40 million to indigent Ebonyi undergraduate of Law, Medical students and others in their Masters degree program.

Senator Nwebonyi gave the scholarship award during a Civic reception organized by his people of mbeke ishieke Community of Ebonyi Local Government Area of the state.


Nwebonyi said the essence of the Scholarship was to guarantee the future of the students, stressing that the best investment one can do is the one on human.

Senator Nwebonyi said;
“About 200 students got their school fees, those studying Law, Medicine & Surgery got N150,000 each, those in post graduate got N200,000 while those Medical students that are in their clinical stage at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo who were at the verge of dropping out due to accumulated unpaid school fees got a total of N6,720,000. When you put them together, it will give you a total of N40,000,000″. 


“We are having challenges of social vices today in our society because those Youths involved in it are not educated, if they had opportunity of being Educated,  probably, they couldn’t have indulged in those social vices

” We are Also making this intervention to make sure that  no student from Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone drops out from school”

He encouraged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the fund and ensure they did not divert the fund for other purpose as such may amount to the diversion of their destinies.


The people mbeke ishieke Community ceased the event to confere on the senator a Chieftaincy title of ‘Oshimini 1 of Mbeke ishieke, in recognition of his contribution and support to the welfare and development of the community.


Senator Nwebonyi however, opined that “before I entered into power, I have been into constant touch with my people. I have been sharing their concerns in all respects. As a legal Practitioner, I saw the need to provide succour to less privileged and I started building houses for those living in non standard houses. And that probably might be the reasons why God has been growing us from position to the other. The title they gave me today was not out of place based on the way I have been providing for them and identifying with them.

“I want to tell you that this is just a begining of what I am going to do for my people as I am yet to do more

“As I speak to you, I have over 6 kilometers of roads for Ebonyi North Zone and 76.8 kilometers of roads connecting Ebonyi and Benue States”.

Earlier, Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru while handing over the cheques to the beneficiaries, commended the senator for always demonstrating genuine love for his people and enjoined political office holders to emulate the senator and know that the position they occupying is in trust for the people and not for their families alone.


Other dignitaries at the event include Ebonyi State APC Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, Senator representing Ebonyi central, Senator Ken Eze, Senator Representing Ebonyi South, Prof. Anthony Ani, member representing Ikwo and Ezza South Federal Constituency, Comrade Chinedu Ogah, principle Officers of Government among others.
