Over four thousand pregnant women across the thirteen (13) local Government Areas of Ebonyi State is said to have been enrolled into free healthcare delivery services in the state.
The Executive Secretary, Ebonyi State Health insurance Agency, EBSHIA, Dr Divine Igwe made the disclosure while briefing journalists in Abakaliki, the state capital. He added that aside the over four thousand pregnant women enrollees, the agency, has also enrolled over fifty one thousand, eight hundred civil servants and other people into the program in the state.
Dr Igwe explained further that the enrollment of the pregnant woman was facilitatef by the wife of the state Governor, Mrs Uzoamaka Ogbonna Nwifuru through her pet project, Better Health for Rural women and internally displaced persons foundation, (BERWO) while that of the civil servants was taking care of, by state Governor Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru through the payment of 5% premium for all the civil and public Servants in the state..
EBHA Executive Secretary emphasized that the Governor's intervention is inline with 'his people's charter of needs' manifesto in health sector, which according to him, has remained the best across the states of the federation, and is aimed at revamping the health sector and reducing to it's bestest minimum, the maternal mortality in the state.
He said, “The Governor, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has demonstrated uncommon commitment in ensuring that the health sector is completely revamped. That he has done with every sense of sincerity, commitment, seriousness, solemnity and integrity.
“After the proclamation of the Governor for the enrollment of the Formal Sector, the Agency matched the statement with action. I’m happy to announce to you that presently, the Agency has completed the enrollment of all civil and public servants in the State. That has tremendously aided the expansion of enrollment coverage to more residents in the state.
“The agency has worked tirelessly to improve service delivery to its beneficiaries. We have partnered with more healthcare providers to ensure that our members have access to a wide range of healthcare services, including, ANCs, delivery, etc.
“The Ebonyi State Health Insurance Agency has embraced digital technology to streamline its operations and improve efficiency. We have implemented a digital platform for enrollment, claims processing, and member communication, making it easier for our beneficiaries to access and utilize their health insurance benefits.
“In partnership with the pet project of the wife of the BERWO, The Agency has enrolled about four thousand pregnant women across the 13 LGAs of the State. Most of the have accessed Healthcare, some have delivered even through operation without any form of payment.
“The Ebonyi State Health Insurance Agency remains committed to ensuring that all residents have access to affordable and quality healthcare services. We will continue to work towards expanding coverage, improving service delivery, and enhancing the health outcomes of our beneficiaries” he stated.
The Executive Secretar, Dr Divine Igwe, however, pointed out that aside the basic health insurance program, the agency also have other programs that covers everybody in the society and called on families, groups and Institutions of higher learning like Ebonyi state University, EBSU, to utilize the opportunity and enroll their members into the program.
Hear him, "Apart from the basic healthcare provision fund,, we now have what we call (GIFSHIP) Group, Individual, family social health insurance program. We also have another one called (TISHIP) Tetiarry Institution Social Health Insurance Program . So, these two programs now covers everybody. This simply means if you are not captured in the free enrollment, you can come up either as a student or come as a group. It has its own subsidy. If you write us, we will tell you what it takes to do that. As an individual you can also register,, go to our website, just click EBSHIA, the website will pop up and you see the premium and you can pay online, you don't need to come here. We also have family enrollment. For instance if you have a family of four, that is, the father, mother and four children under eighteen years, you can pay 54,000 for one year.
"If you watch Ebonyi state University now, you find out that students are paying for their medical bills Inside their school fees but they are not utilizing that. I have already had engagement with the Vice Chancellor and their money had to be utilized. All the students has to be given health insurance. They will go to hospital and come out free of charge. Even when they're on holiday,we can treat them and even pay their medical bills wherever they are. No extra money, it is already incoopreated into their school fees and that is what is called TISHIP. i am already on that Program now. I have told him that the money there need to be relinguished so that the students will start accessing free medication. That is the responsibility of the school and we have to give it to the people that deserves it", he concluded.
