The Executive Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area, Hon Uchenna Nnajiofor Ibiam on Thursday debunked the rumour making the rounds that Unknown Gun men invaded Afikpo and attacked some parts of the Council Area, saying the news being peddled were false.
Hon Uche Ibiam who disclosed this while addressing Stakeholders of the Area during the visit of Ebonyi State Appointment Review Committee to the Area on Thursday, explained that the reports of attack in Afikpo were mere calculated attempt to create apprehension and fear in the Local Government and urged residents of the Area to disregard false alarm as nothing like that happened
He lamented that the unfounded rumour which spread like harmattan fire led to the total shut down of Banks, Schools,Markets and other Socio -economic activities in Afikpo and implored the people of the Area to go about their normal businesses without any fear of attack or invasion adding that Security Agencies are on ground to provide adequate Security coverage
Hon Uche Ibiam used the opportunity to advise the public especially rumour mongers to desist from peddling false information capable of truncating the peace being enjoyed in Afikpo Local Government Area
The Council Chairman who applauded Gov Nwifuru for his innovative leadership which precipitated the Constitution of the Appointment Review Committee expressed great joy that the interactive meeting was heavily attended by Afikpo Stakeholders despite the false alarm that created a tensed situation.
In a remark the Chairman of the Appointment Review Committee,Hon Peter Ndubuisi Nworie stated that they are in Afikpo in line with the directive of His Excellency,Gov Nwifuru to find out the spread of Political Positions at the various component parts of the Local Government with the view of ensuring equity, fairness and balance of appointments in subsequent exercise.
In their submissions various stakeholders who spoke for their Development Centres like Rt Hon Christopher Omo Isu(Amoha DC); Hon Barr Oby Oko Enyim (Amasiri DC); Barr Emmanuel Ogbonnia Egwu (Afikpo North DC); Hon Odinaka Oka Uhiom(Afikpo North East DC); and Hon Uche Ibiam for Ubeyi DC described the exercise as a commendable initiative of Ebonyi State APC led Government under the able Leadership of His Excellency,Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and expressed optimism that the report of the Committee,which reflects the wishes of those at the Grassroots,if implemented will further deepen an all inclusive governance in the State.
In a vote of thanks, the Chairman of APC in Afikpo Local Government Area,Hon Nicodemus Egwu appreciated the Leadership of the ruling Party, APC for demonstrating their firm belief that indeed democracy is the government of the people and appealed that the Party should continue to reward loyalty and hard work as way of building a formidable political structure.
