Ebonyi South students Union on Tuesday, unanimously adopted the APC candidate for Ebonyi South Senatorial zone, Engr David Umahi as its Sole senatorial candidate for the February 25th National election in the state.
This was part of the resolution reached at the end of one day convention of Ebonyi South students held at Amuro town hall in Afikpo North Local Government Area.
Speaking during the event, the coordinator, student Divine Mandate campaign, Comr. Okoro Offor Joshua, lauded the students for coming out to speak in one voice, assuring them that they have made a right decision. He urged those who have not obtained their permanent Voter's Cards to seize the opportunity given by INEC and get it before it closes.
Earlier in his address of welcome, the president, Ebonyi South students Union, Comrade Okorie Caleb, Commended the students for honoring the convention and chronicled the synergy that have existed with Ebonyi State Government since the emergence of Governor David Umahi in 2015.
Comrade Okorie said;
"It's a great honour and privilege to stand before you this afternoon to welcome you to this auspicious occasion of Ebonyi South Students Convention which will witness the endorsement of our role model, our pathfinder, the infrastructure god, Engr Dave Nweze Umahi Fnse Fnate CON GSSRS as the our sole candidate for Ebonyi South Senatorial Zone and our friend, fellow Student and mentor, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru as the sole candidate for 2023 Gubernatorial election.
"I most profoundly acknowledge you for honouring this occasion irrespective of the exigencies of office. Thanks and welcome our dear Leaders.
"Students has become momentous non State actors in the world and hitherto, contribute enormously to the sociopolitical, economic and Security of the world, especially in Nigeria. The role of Students in Governance cannot be overemphasized. Since the emergence of His Excellency, Engr Dave Nweze Umahi Fnse Fnate CON GSSRS as the Governor of Ebonyi State, he has maintained good working relationship with the Students and prioritized their welfare unlike the successive Governments.
"To justify the fact that Students has role in politics and Governance, hence the creation of Office of the SA on Students Office and the Directorate of Divine Mandate Student Campaign which is headed by our leader, Comr Okoro Joshua Offor (Majesty). By the grace of God, i want to assure you that, Ebonyi South Students shall give bloc votes to Engr Dave Nweze Umahi Fnse Fnate CON GCNS and Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru who have shown commitment to the affairs of the Students.
"This occasion became necessary following the forthcoming General Election which is sin qua non in every 4yrs. The Ebonyi South Students have accessed all the Candidates jostling to Represent Ebonyi South Senatorial Zone and Ebonyi State and resolved to convoke this convention in synergy with the Directorate of Divine Mandate Students Campaign Council to endorse Engr Dave Nweze Umahi Fnse Fnate CON GCNS as our sole Candidate for the Senatorial position in Ebonyi South Senatorial Zone and Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru as our sole candidate for Ebonyi State Gubernatorial position.
"For emphasis, we deemed it necessary to endorse our father, His Excellency Engr Dave Nweze Umahi Fnse Fnate CON GSSRS for the following reasons:
"Aside the sundry infrastructural development brought to Ebonyi South Senatorial Zone within the period of 8years, Engr Dave Nweze Umahi established two institutions in Ebonyi South which are direct beneficial to the Students and potential Students in Ebonyi South:
"Ebonyi State Nursing School, Uburu
"David Umahi Federal University of Medical Sciences/Teaching Hospital.
"These two Institutions are worthwhile and very beneficial to Ebonyi South Students, including fresh Graduates who has glaring opportunity to be employed there.
"Federal College of Education, Technical, Isu.
"This institution was attracted to Ebonyi South courtesy of his Excellency Engr Dave Nweze Umahi Fnse Fnate CON GCNS who's passionate about rapid development in Ebonyi State.
"Engr Dave Nweze Umahi Fnse Fnate CON GCNS has offered scholarship to many Students in Ebonyi South Senatorial Zone and always gives largesse to the Students to cushion their economic challenges which is the first of its kind. Furthermore, on assumption of office, he reduced the School fees of Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki by 10% to mitigate the hardship on Students.
"To further demonstrate his love towards Students, he created Office for Students Affairs which is serving as a direct link between the Students and Government.
"Your Excellency, it could be recalled that the National Association of Nigeria Students in appreciation for Engr Dave Nweze Umahi Fnse Fnate support for Students confered on you "Grand Commander of Nigerian Students" (GCNS).
"However, it's based on the above premise that we deemed it necessary to endorse you, His Excellency as our Senatorial Candidate because you has done excellently and deserves to represent us in the red chamber against all odds. Anything contrary is a sign of betrayal and ingratitude.
"Similarly, on the side of our mentor, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, APC Gubernatorial Candidate, Ebonyi State, we him found worthy to be endorsed as our sole candidate on the following premise:
"Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru is part of us. He is our own. Emphatically, he is still a Student as a fresh Graduate of Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki in Law Faculty.
"Above all, he has shown uncommon love to Ebonyi State Students with Ebonyi South Students inclusive. Many Students benefited through his pet foundation, Onwa Oferekpe Foundation and still benefiting.
"While in School, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru repainted and renovated Law Faculty with modern seats in 5 Level lecture hall to be precise, among other sundry things he did which are directly beneficial to Students.
"David Umahi Federal University of Medical Sciences is a product of Ebonyi State House of Assembly legislation under the able leader of Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and other policies of Government that improved the welfare of the Students. The relationship that exists between the Legislators and the Executive midwive this great institution.
"By equity, it's the turn of Ebonyi North to produce the successor of Gov Umahi and in the Zone, we found Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru worthy as the best man to take over the baton from Engr Dave Nweze Umahi Fnse Fnate CON GCNS to consolidate on the achievements recorded thus far in the State.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, we the Students want an experienced, detribalized dedicated and God fearing leaders to represent us so that we can enjoy dividends of democracy in its fullness. We have seen the leadership qualities embeded in Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and Engr Dave Nweze Umahi Fnse Fnate and can vehemently affirm that they will lead us much more better having used their present position to develop Ebonyi State in all sphere.
"I want to use this medium to call on all the Students of Ebonyi State extraction to collect their PVC and vote for Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru as our Governor. Similarly, Ebonyi South Students are urged to do same and ensure that Gov Umahi is enthroned as our Senator.
