In keeping with its oath of office as well as achieve its developmental agenda, the government must map out sustainable plan to nip in the bud crime by the men of underworld.
In the country for instance, the President and Commander -in- Chief of Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is legally saddled with the full responsibility of protecting lives and property of the Nigerian populace at any giving time hence he is often referred to as the Chief Security. This is also applicable in the 36 States of the Federation where Governors hold sway.
To this end, the Ebonyi State Governor, His Excellency Engr Chief Apostle David Nweze Umahi FNSE, FNATE, CON not only sustained the local Security Outfit called Neighborhood Watch which he inherited from his predecessor, Chief Martin Elechi but also upgraded and made the outfit more professional in it's mode of operation.
As the chairman, South-East Governor's Forum, Chief Umahi agreed with his counterparts in the region that a Local Vigilante with the nomenclature "Ebubeagu Security Outfit" should be established to help tackle the rising wave of insecurity within the zone.
Like a leader who saw tomorrow, the smart move by His Excellency, Chief Umahi helped to a very large scale douse the overwhelming impact of insecurity arising from the activities of the criminals in most states in the Southeastern part of Nigeria.
As the Chief Security in Ebonyi State, the Governor swiftly appointed the former Commissioner for Internal Security Border Peace and Conflict Resolution, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha as the Special Security Consultant (SSC) to the state government to oversee the activities of the Ebubeagu Security Outfit.
While achievements of the Outfit at the zonal level are evident, Ebubeagu Security Outfit in Ebonyi State under the seasoned and disciplined Security Expert, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha has been most proactive thus ensuring that the citizens carry out their legitimate engagements despite the sit-at- home order being enforced in other parts of the south Eastern region by the separatist outlawed Eastern Securit Network(ESN).
This alone has put the economy of Ebonyi state ahead of others and brought more peace to the people as well as earned more respect to the Governor as a strategic leader.
It's also of note that the arrest of a notorious car snatcher who terrorized the capital city of Abakaliki as well as foiling several kidnap attempts by unscrupulous elements would not have been possible without Ebubeagu.
Also on record was the rescue of commuters who were attacked along Ebonyi/Enugu/Okigwe axis and bursting of a syndicate that specialised in child trafficking along Abaomege axis in Ebonyi State as well as reduction of pick pockets especially in the capital city of Abakakili.
Ebubeagu in conjunction with other security agencies ensured that external invaders were checkmated while drug peddlers who deal in mkpurummiri and other illicit substances were chased out of the state.
Based on the foregoing, it beats the imagination of right thinking individuals to either talk ill or accuse the outfit of human right abuses and operational deficiencies.
One may not totally rule out the fact that there may be few bad eggs among the personnel but the truth remains that the positive gains of the Outfit's existence far outweighs its deficiencies.
Therefore, for some supposedly informed people to described the outfit as a tool for political vendetta in the hands of the present administration in Ebonyi State is absurd and far from the reality on ground.
Despite, the obvious feats achieved in designating Ebonyi as the safest state in Nigeria it should be known that such achievement did not come on a silver plater as some Ebubeagu Security personnel not less than thirteen of them have so far paid with their lives.
From the negative criticism and campaign of calumny being peddled through some media platforms, it is now crystal clear that those who are complaining were those whose criminal chain of business have been cut off by the Outfit.
It is therefore, imperative to call on the residents of Ebonyi State to continue to volunteer useful information that could help the Ebubeagu Security Outfit alongside other security formations in tackling insecurity for the overall well-being of everyone.
Ebubeagu Security Outfit has come to stay.
