Barely 24 hours after facilitating the Peace Building Process that culminated in the signing of Peace Accord between Unwana Community in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State and the Erei people in Biase Local Government Area of Cross River, the Executive Chairman of Afikpo North Local Government Area, Hon Uche Ibiam has led some Leaders and Stakeholders of Afikpo North to a Peace talk at Amasiri.
Addressing the people at the Palace of the Traditional Ruler of Amasiri Autonomous Community, HRH Ezeogo Bassey Idam Onya, the Council Chairman, Hon. Uche Ibiam who noted that peace is becoming elusive in some quarters, implored Political actors and Community Leaders to join hands with Governor David Nweze Umahi's led administration to sustain peaceful co-existence in their respective Communities so as to achieve sustainable development.
He disclosed that Leaders and Stakeholders of Afikpo North Local Government resolved to come to Amasiri to douse tension generated by the incident that happened few days ago and to fashion out the best conflict resolution approach to adopt in ensuring that the matter is permanently laid to rest
The Council Boss who condemned the incident charged political actors, Community Leaders and Women Groups to always use their positions and influence to promote peace and should never at any time allow their friends, supporters and relations to be used to disrupt the peace in Afikpo North in particular and Ebonyi State at large .
Hon. Uche Ibiam who further highlighted the giant strides of Governor Umahi in Amasiri tasked the people of the area to continue to reciprocate and appreciate the State Governor by allowing peace to reign supreme in the Community as well as among brothers and sisters.
He used the opportunity to reaffirmed his zero tolerance to any form of violence or activities capable of causing chaos and destabilizing the peace and security of Afikpo North Local Government Area, vowing that trouble makers will be made to face the full weight of the Law of the land.
Earlier in a remark, the Deputy Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly and member representing Afikpo North West State Constituency,Rt. Hon. Kingsley Ogbonnia Ikoro commended stakeholders of Afikpo North LGA,led by the Council Chairman for their swift reaction towards ensuring peace not just in Amasiri but in all parts of the Local Government Area and advised both parties involved in the skirmish to embrace peace,even as he further urged the Osumkpa Women to use their local means of conflict resolution to broker permanent peace.
On his part, the Director General of Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation, Ebbc,Engr. Timothy Nwachi who described peace as a catalyst for rapid development, solicited the collaboration of the Osumkpa Women in restoring healthy relationship between two of their daughters that had issue.
While emphasizing on the imperative of residents of Afikpo North living harmoniously with one another, he enjoined them to always embrace dialogue mechanism in resolving their differences and settlement of disputes.
In their seperate speeches the Traditional Ruler of Amasiri Autonomous Community,HRH Ezeogo Bassey Idam Onya and the Spokesperson of Osumkpa Women, Amasiri,Madam Roseline Oko Chukwu expressed joy on the visit of Afikpo North Leaders and noted that though they have been notified of the misunderstanding between two of their daughters, they are yet to pronounced any of them guilty or take position as regards the matter, assuring that they would use their position to reconcile the duo as quickly as possible.
