UNESCO Kicks Off Sensitization Campaign On Girls Child Education, Health In Ebonyi

UNESCO-Perking University of China project on promoting school health and Education of girls in Africa in the COVID-19 era has kicked off Community advocacy visit to a selected local Government Area in Ebonyi State.
Speaking during the sensitization campaign program held at Abakaliki Local Government Area on Monday, the UNESCO National coordinator for Education, Mrs Ngozi Amanze said essence of the advocacy campaign was to educate the parents on the need for proper Education of a girl-child in the society. 
She identified early marriage, gender based violence, sexual harassement  as some of the impediments to girl child Education and called on parents to establish parent-child communication to be able to teach them sex Education so that the children will know when their are being harassed sexually or violated.
Ngozi Amanze equally harped on the need for gender equality in the Education and health needs of the children.

Earlier, the special Assistant to Ebonyi State Governor on Adult Education and Mass literacy, Barr. Mr Stella Nwagu enjoyed the participants to the program seriously, as it meant to address the Educational gap and health need of a girl child in the state.
On his part, the Executive Chairman of Abakaliki Local Government, Mr Emmanuel Nwangele, represented by the supervisor for Education Hon. Reuben Offor, welcomed the team and assured that he will everything to support the program and accord them the required cooperation needed for the success of the program in Abakaliki Local Government Area.
Other speakers include the representative of minister of Education, Mrs Uche Udorji, representative of minister of women affirs, Mrs Ucha Kalu, Dr Efi Anam among others corroborated the position of Mrs Ngozi Amanze and enjoined participants to avail themselves of the opportunity presented by program and make Education and health needs of their children a priority.

The advocacy campaign which has the theme; 'promoting school health Education for girls in the COVID-19 era in Ebonyi State',has in attendance, the traditional rulers from various Communities in Abakaliki Local Government Area, women group, parents, youths and Representatives Government among others.

It is meant to cover three Local Government Areas of Abakaliki, Ebonyi and Izzi respectively.
