LG Polls: Abakaliki Council Chair-elect Awards Prizes To Best Performing Wards, Others

The Chairman-elect for Abakaliki Local Government Area Hon. Stephen Ebere Nwogba has awarded prizes to the best performing three wards in the just concluded Local Government council.

The people who benefited from the award prizes are as follows, Timber Shade which is ward 14 scored 11,063 votes to came the first position and was given #500, 000, Anmegu-enyigba ward 4 polled 6,626 votes to emerge as the second runner got #200,000 while Abakpa ward 1 got 6,205 votes to come third position smiled home with #100,000 respectively among other beneficiaries which made the money to corresponded to over #1. 5 million.

Recall that the distribution of the award prizes was in the fulfilment of his campaign promises.
Speaking at the event, the chairman elect commended the people of the council especially stakeholders for demonstrating a high level of patriotism and commitment towards him during the election despite the rain and their busy schedules and expressed hope that if it continued in that manner, the council would have higher votes in the general elections in the State.

According to him "We know from the day of the campaign to election day, there has been a heavy rain but even under the rain people trooped out in their large numbers and vote. I watched some clips and I see the crowd that came to vote, that is to show that people are eager to vote"

"Considering the level of registration in these dying minutes you will know full well that people want to vote and if we can demonstrate this level of patriotism and commitment it will help us a lot. Because in the  rain like this which you know an Abakaliki people  is known for farming I know that in the general elections we are going to have highest votes"


He described the support and solidarity given to him by the people of the council as a welcome development, assuring to carry everybody along in all the activities going on in the council area and promised never to disappoint them.

He said every difficult situation would be resolved collectively while progressive areas would be greased to attain a better result.


However, he praised the incumbent chairman Hon. Emmanuel Nwangele who according to him had made tremendous efforts since the journey of the election began and vowed to solidify their togetherness while commending stakeholders of the council, Nwogba solicited their unflinching support and prayers at all times, assuring them he would never be found wanting throughout his administration.

Continuing, the chairman-elect lauded the State Governor Engr. David Umahi for choosing the illustrious son of the Izzi clan Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru to succeed him come 2023 and urged people of the council to widen their gaps and bring in people in the opposition parties to join forces with them while encouraging them to
refrain from condemning anyone on social media but rather be a peace advocate.

While reacting to the speculations on social media that Izzi people are plotting to ostracize some group of persons in their land and seized their properties when they became Governor of the State, Nwogba dismissed the insinuation, saying the clan is known for the spirit of accommodation and sportsmanship, adding that the claims were orchestrated by those people looking for cheap popularity and enjoined such persons to desist from it as it doesn't do any good than harm.



Also Speaking, the incumbent chairman of the Hon. Emmanuel Nwangele expressed gratitude to God for the peaceful conduct of the election in all the nooks and crannies of the council. Nwangele called on the Stakeholders to work in unison with the Chairman-elect to move the council forward.


On his part, the former chairman of the council Dr Mathew Nwobasi advised the new chairman to endeavour to carry everybody along in his day-to-day activities in the council area.


Collaborating, the Special Assistant to the Governor on road maintenance and Infrastructure while thanking the chairman for fulfilling his campaign promises said he has demonstrated what is expected of every good leader and appreciated God for the count and is the kind of person to lead the council.

Lending his voice, the Chairman of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo in Ebonyi State Dr Peter Mbam,  expressed gladness for the peaceful outcome of the election in the council.

He pointed out the existing mutual relationship between them and the outgoing council chairman and called on the chairman-elect to sustain the tempo in the interest of all.

In their separate speeches, the APC chairman in the Council Hon. Paulinus Attam, the former special assistant to the Governor on market development Hon. Peter Nwogba solicited total support to the chairman with all sincerity in his policies and programmes and woe other friends to join them to make the council the best in the state as that would help to make them win in the next general elections
Others are Hon. Obinna Nwiboko on behalf of DC Coordinators and Mrs Virginia Oketa on behalf of female fork extolled the chairman-elect and the outgoing chairman for their tireless efforts and relationship strategies exhibited between them and the people of the council and pledged their total support towards moving the council forward.
