King David University of Medical Sciences Commences Academic Activities; Sets For Maiden Matriculation

Academic activities has commenced at the 'presigeous' King David University of Medical Sciences, Uburu, in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The pioneer Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jesse Uneke, disclosed this to our reporter during the visit of Uburu Traditional Rulers Council to inspected some key facilities at the University.

The facility inspection, according to the Chairman of Uburu Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Highness, Eze Lazarus Umahi, was on the invitation of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jesse Uneke, to brief them on the modalities already put in place as the academic activities takes off in the institution.

The Royal fathers after a closed door meeting with the Vice Chancellor, were conducted round the facilities, being the Traditional Rulers from the host community. They commended the Governor, Engr David Umahi for the feat achieved so far in the institution, pledging their total support to the management of the university in ensuring the progress of the institution.

Briefing journalist after the facility tour, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Jesse Uneke said, "King David University of Medical Sciences is a 21st Century state of the art facilities Medical University. And what we are doing here is providing for mankind the best of medical training in various areas of health sciences and medical sciences, such as medicine and surgery, pharmacy, physiotherapy, Anatomy, Biochemistry, physiology, nutrition and dietitics, health policy, health system and health Economics, traditional integrative medicine and host others. And also the core nature sciences like industrial physics, industrial chemistry, industrial Biology and computer science".

Professor Uneke stated further, "King David University of Medical Sciences is designed to offer those courses in a most condusive environment and with highest level of quality in terms of facility and the quality of manpower. We want to bridge the huge gap that is currently existing in terms of access to the best kind of training in Nigeria and our goal is to reverse medical tourism and that is why we are putting up one of the best Teaching Hospital in the country that is fully equipped with modern equipment and we are bringing in, some of the best in the world to come and work here so that we can provide the best kind of healthcare to Nigerians and those coming from outside the country".
He said that academic activities has taken off in the university as the institution has concluded her resources verification from the National University Commission (NUC) and twenty (20) programs from twenty department has also been approved and admission has commenced. He also revealed that the maiden matriculation will come up on the second week of December.
