The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) Ebonyi State council, Comrade Tony Nwizi has attributed the landslide second term Victory of the National president of the Union, Comrade Chris Isiguzo, to the monumental achievements he recorded in his first term in office.
Nwizi, who described Isiguzo as jinx breaker, noted that prior to his emergence in 2018 as the national president of NUJ from Igbo extraction, he faced the highest opposition in the history of NUJ election, but he was able to defeat the then incubent president, Wahaab Odunsule because of the solidarity of the northern part of the country, who saw him as a uniting factor of the Union.
The Ebonyi NUJ Chairman said 'Isiguzo's three years on the saddle, have repositioned the Union in line with the international best practices. "The leadership of Isiguzo have also placed topmost priority on the welfare of the members, knowing that the essence of unionism is anchored on the welfare of its members, which saw to the resolution of non- payment of backlog of salary owed to some Media workers. Today, some of the known debtor - entrepreneurs are giving the issue of salary of their workers first line charge. "Also, his administration has worked assiduously, to ensure that journalist with outstanding salaries at their workplaces were settled substantially. "For instance, ThisDay, Leadership and Champion Newspapers among others were within this category even as the electronic media were not left out his engagement", he said.
He called on all journalist across the country to continue to support the leadership of Isiguzo in his quest to put the NUJ in its proper pedestal.
