As the date for the nationwide state Congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC) approaches, the Ebonyi State chapter of the party is not giving anything to chance to ensure a rancour free exercise.
The state governor, Engr Chief David Nweze Umahi stated this during the APC Stakeholders meeting of Ebonyi South zone which took place on 23rd September, 2021 at Afikpo, the headquarters of Afikpo North Local Government Area.
The Governor represented by his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Local Government, Rural Development and Chieftaincy matters, Hon Ogbuefi Enekwachi Akpa, appreciated the party faithful for harmonizing positions prior to forthcoming state congress and urged them to disregard any arrangement that is not contained in party's guidelines and other relevant documents supporting the political process.
Speaking at the event, the State Caretaker Chairman of the APC, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha revealed that other senatorial zones in the state are also meeting for the main purpose of harmonising elective positions ahead of the forthcoming state congress, stressing that the move will breed harmony and eliminate squabbles among party faithful.
"The premeditated and calculated attempt is part of measures the stakeholders especially our able Governor believe will help eliminate crisis in the upcoming state Congress in Ebonyi. We are all aware that our father, the Governor had been a party administrator before now and has track record of winning every contest just like King David of the Bible", Chief Emegha submitted.
While applauding his administrative acumen, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha who has shown interest in becoming the state substantive Chairman of the party said, Governor David Umahi had in different fora demonstrated rare intelligence in the political calculation of the country, adding that he is now a city on the hill that cannot be hidden in South East and Nigeria's political arena.
Appreciating the decorum displayed by the party members during the previous congresses, the chairmanship aspirant also urged them to continue to maintain their peaceful disposition which has earned Ebonyi a scorecard of the most united and organized chapter in the country.
"One person cannot do it alone, hence everyone is important and all hands must be on deck to ensure peaceful state congress. It is our collective ideas and efforts that can make us win. Our governor who carries everyone along has done us proud and we shall reciprocate by making him proud, too."
The Deputy Leader, Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Mr Kingsley Ogbonnia Ikoro, and the host Chairman, Afikpo North Local Government Area, Barr Mrs Oby Oko Enyim as well as her counterparts of Ivo, Chief Onyebuchi Ogbadu; Onicha, Engr Ogbonna Igboke; Afikpo South, Barr Eni Uduma Chima and Ohaozara, Mrs Nkechinyere Iyioku among other stakeholders who spoke during the meeting all expressed delight over the development. Expressing satisfaction with the procedure followed in zoning positions within the senatorial district, the pledged continued loyalty to the party.
From the latest development, political analysts are of the opinion that the coast is becoming more clearer for the candidature of the State Caretaker Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha to emerge as the Ebonyi state substantive chairman of the APC in the rescheduled nationwide state congress holding on the 16th day of October 2021.
