Umahi's Wife warns against cultural impediments on females in Ebonyi community

The Wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Mrs. Rachel Umahi has cautioned some communities in Ezza South LGA to desist from all the cultural impediments that risked the lives of women and girls in their areas.





She dropped the hint  during a dialogue and sensitization meeting with the stakeholders of the communities in Ezza South LGA of the State on the dangers of female genital mutilation organized by Family Succor and upliftment Foundation in collaboration with United National Population Fund to eradicate the ugly menace in the  State.




Mrs Umahi represented at the event by the Special Assistant to the Governor on welfare office of her office, Mrs. Patience Offor Okorie called for positive  treatment among women and girls.




She observed that the role of women and girls in the society cannot be overemphasized, pointing out the need for men to remain total supportive to women than unleashing mayhem on them for the interest of all.




While handing over the simplified version of Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law (VAPP) to the communities, Umahi warned that any offender would be punished according to the law.




She however urged them to desist from all forms of violence against Women and girls in their various communities and the State at large.






On her part, the Women development officer, Ezza South Local Government Area, Mrs Chinyere Eze appreciated Governor Umahi's wife and the UNFPA for such dialogue and sensitization programme to her people assured to join hand together in the eradication of the menace.



Some of the traditional rulers who spoke during  the dialogue and sensitization meeting including Ezeogo Martin Nwali among others as well as Councilors Mr. Chinedu Ngwuta and Christopher Anyigor described the exercise as  a welcome development, saying that Ezza people have enacted bye laws to eliminate the obnoxious practices.




They further expressed satisfaction over the training, dialogue and resolution reached and assured to extend the message to their people at the grassroots.

Earlier in his speech,  the Coordinator of the  programme who also doubled as the coordinator of family succor and upliftment foundation Evangelist Chukwuma Elom thanked the stakeholders of the clan for their bold step and admonished them never to relent in their decision to guarantee the safety of women and girls in every parts of the council.





Meanwhile, the representatives of Christian Association of Nigeria, Ezza South Chapter Mr Solomon Nworie, Mr Francis Ezeuwa and Woman leaders includes Mrs. Virginia Nweke and  Mrs. Joy Ohuji lauded the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Rachel Umahi for her welfare and developmental programmes for female folks.
