CITATION OF HIS EXCELLENCY, ENGR CHIEF DAVID NWEZE UMAHI FNSE FNATE (AKUBARAOHA) GOVERNOR OF EBONYI STATE
Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi fondly called Akubaraoha was born 58 years ago to the family of late Elder and Deaconess Joseph Umahi Nweze in Umunaga, Uburu Community in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State..
He passed through his Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Education with distinction. He made superlative exploits in his University career and graduated in flying colours from the then Anambra State University of Science and Technology as one of the best brains in Civil Engineering..
Before his entrance into active politics in 2007, Engr Umahi had proved his worth as a genius in Civil Engineering and all forms of construction works. In his professional calling, he made outstanding accomplishments as a Chief Executive Officer of business conglomerates and a Captain of Industry with flourishing stardom.
In his political calling, Governor Umahi first occupied a political position as an Acting State Chairman of PDP between 2007 and 2009, a position he saw as an opportunity to bring value and innovative leadership to the party.
In view of Umahi's performance as Acting Chairman of his then party, he was elected as substantive State Chairman of PDP, a position he held between 2009 and 2011 before he emerged as the 3rd Civilian Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State under the administration of His Excellency, Chief Martin N. Elechi CON. During his period as Party Chairman, he built Africa's biggest party office that has not been beaten till today.
Governor Umahi's performance as Deputy Governor between 2011 and 2015 was further seen by many as an eye opener to his capabilities and completences should he have the opportunity of being a Chief Executive of the State. Though a rich Deputy Governor, he stooped low and demonstrated tenacity and sincerity of purpose in every assignment given to him. He was loyal, humble and was a great pillar of support to the administration of his boss.
Engr Umahi was elected as the 3rd Civilian Governor of Ebonyi State in 2015 despite a stiff opposition by the establishment at that time. He therefore made a record as the first Deputy Governor in the World to be elected Governor at the stiffest opposition of his boss.
Governor Umahi today has broken records as:
1. The first Governor in Nigeria to invent road construction with concrete pavement of which he adopted in virtually all his road construction works that made Ebonyi State to be global village with comprehensive network of roads
2. The Governor of the State with the highest number of flyovers after Lagos and Abuja, having built about 13 flyovers with beautiful esthetic facilities within the shortest record of time.
3. The Governor of the State with Africa's biggest Shopping Mall,also described as the microcosm of the macrocosm of the Dubai Mall.
4. The Governor of the State with Africa's biggest and most beautiful University of Medical Sciences with a Centre of Excellence for the treatment of heart diseases, liver and cancer problems.
5. The Governor of the State with Africa's biggest Light Tunnel named after President Muhammadu Buhari, with Africa's biggest water fountain underneath.
7. The Governor of the State with Africa's biggest Ecumenical Centre with World-class state of the art facilities.
8. The Governor of the State with the biggest rice milling plant in Nigeria with a total of 32 metric tone capacity per hour rice milling plant and 38 metric tone capacity per hour parboiling plant owned by the State govennemt and over 1500,000 number individually owned rice milling plants.
