EDON not behind non-payment of beneficiaries of Special Public Works in Ebonyi State

Our attention has been drawn to some jaundiced posts on Facebook by two uninformed Ezza born urchins Polycarp Obinna Alegu and Alieze Ude Uzuakpunwa where the imps accused the Chairman of the Special Public Works, SPW Ebonyi State, Architect Edward Nkwegu of laissez-faire attitude towards the beneficiaries of the Scheme in the State.

Ordinarily, we would not be joining issues with the information malnourished Alegu and Uzuakpunwa but it has become expedient to put things in proper perspectives for discerning minds not to be misinformed about the true situation.

First, it may interest you to know that Ebonyi State has continued to maintain leading role in the implementation of the Special Public Works across the  country; hence the reason Architect Nkwegu is held in high esteem among the Chairmen of the Programme in 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Recall that part of what gave EDON such credibility  was the transparent manner in which the 13000 beneficiaries of the Scheme in the State were selected with minimum of five persons in the 1785 polling units and about 900 voting points across the 171 wards chosen  without recourse to Political inclination, tribe, religion or any other variables.

Beneficiaries of the Programme are drawn from across Christians, Muslims, civil societies groups, traditional and educational institutions, youth organizations, market women, artisans among others.

We therefore challenge Alegu and Uzuakpunwa to present  a verifiable data of any state that is ahead of Ebonyi in the implementation of the Programme if really they are  alone in the character assassination plot otherwise we would count them as part  of the mercenaries of their kinsmen to tarnish the hard earned reputation of any promising and illustrious Izhi offspring ahead of the forth coming dispensation in governance.

It is however gladdening that Alegu in his  feather-weight posts did acknowledge the transparency when he said "During the selection of the beneficiaries, EDON gave enough quotas to the then PDP led state government while many PDP top politicians got slot(s)"

This goes to underscore the fact that the Chairman of the Special Public Works in Ebonyi State is detribalized as he is apolitical in the implementation of the Programme and hence deserves accolade and not reprimand.

However, the reason most of the beneficiaries across the Federation, Ebonyi State not an exception are yet to receive their stimulus package is due to technicalities in authentication of Bank Verification Numbers of beneficiaries by the implementing Banks.

It is verifiable that Beneficiaries whose BVN have been certified in Ebonyi State  have been receiving their stipends accordingly while the implementation team is already on the neck of the Banks to speedily finalize the processes and pay the outstanding  beneficiaries as soon as possible.

The implementation team has however variously communicated the beneficiaries of developments through appropriate channels.

We therefore appeal to the Beneficiaries to continue to be patient as efforts are on top gear to clear all grey areas and speedily pay them their entitlements as both the Chairman and the entire Implementation Committee  Members are committed to their Welfare.
