Ebonyi govt equips library with over 4, 000 new books



The Ebonyi government has approved the installation of over 4, 000 new books for Nursery, Primary and secondary schools in its library in the efforts to improve reading culture among school children.



Dr Onyebuchi Chima, Immediate Past Commissioner for Education  performed the hand-over of the books to the state library in Abakaliki on Friday.

Chima said that the installation of the books were to make the school children have access to book as well as ensuring more qualitative education in the state.

The Past Commissioner, who decried the declinement in the reading culture among pupils and students not only in schools in Ebonyi but across states in the country, said the books covered over 36 subjects.

On building library in the three zones in the state, Chima said that the government was committed to ensure that all schools children have access to book. 

Mr Ituma Elijah, Permanent Secretary, Ebonyi Ministry of Education said the equipping the library with new books was welcome development to encourage the students and teachers. 

Elijah noted that the books including mathematics, science textbooks, English, computer, novels for nursery and primary from grade 1 to 6 and students in secondary.

"These books is to build posterity and future of our children. There are meant for reading and not just to keep them in the library.

"I urge the children to imbibe the spirit of reading and support government efforts to ensuring quality learning in schools," he advised.

Mrs Mgbo-Igariwe Uko, Acting Director of Library Service in Ebonyi commended the Governor, David Umahi on the gesture and pledged for the good management of the library.
