Ebonyi to build varsity named King David University of Medical Sciences

Ebonyi government on Thursday said, it has considered a bill to build a multi-discplinary teaching institution on health issues codenamed 'King David University of Medical Sciences' in the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Daniel Umezurike made this known while briefing newsmen after the state Executive Council meeting held at Old Government House, Abakaliki.

According to him, "the Exco meeting today, Thursday 15th April 2021, considered a drafted bill on the establishment of King David University of Medical Sciences, Uburu, Ebonyi State."

The Health Commissioner also stated that, "the project is near completion before the National University Commission (NUC) will give approval. 

"It has to have enabling law, and that is what we have started today so that before the project will be completed we have gotten a certain level to ensuring all the needful are done before the take off of the University."

He added: "Ebonyi State is desirious of establishing a multi-discplinary teaching University that will be the first of its kind, to handle all the health issues, which take people to abroad, India, America, and Europe. 


Umezurike maintained that When this facility is completed Ebonyi State would be a destination point for medical tourism, reducing unnecessary spending of funds in order to save life abroad.


He said that the members of the state Executive Council were given time to study the drafted bill for the establishment of the varsity to enable them make a meaningful contribution for the success of the project in their next meeting.
