Ebonyi LGA: Ogbogbo bridge gets worse as tipper loaded with chippings falls, scores injuries

A tipper loaded with chippings was reportedly fell off from one of the unity bridges in Ebonyi Local Govetnment Area of Ebonyi State.

The bridge popularly known as Ogbogbo Ekebeligwe Ishieke bridge is situated across Ogbogbo River along Nwiboko Obodo road in Ebonyi LGA of Ebonyi State.

Our sources, Monsignor Nwedukwu and Emmanuel Nwebonyi told our correspondent that the tipper was fully loaded with chippings heading for the Holy Family Parish, Ekebeligwe Ishieke in Mbeke Development Centre but the delapidated nature of the wooden bridge resulted into the ugly incident.

The duo in a chat stated that, no loss of life recorded except one Mr Reuben Nwedeoga - the husband of the Chairlady August meeting of the parish who was inside the tipper was injured badly.

The sources stated that the chippings carried by the tipper belong to the Catholic Women Organization (CWO) of the parish.

"A tipper loaded with chippings belonging to the Holy Family Parish Ekebeligwe Ishieke Catholic Women Organization (CWO) fell off from the dreadful bridge of our village.

"We give God thanks, for what happened at Ogbogbo Ekebeligwe bridge yesterday was nothing to write home about, and the shockest part of it, is that Rebeun Nwedeoga was inside the tipper but all glory be to God that he didn't die but injured," Nwedukwu stated.

"No life was lost, only Reuben Nwaedoga, the husband to Chairlady of August meeting that was inside the the tipper  injured. It is by the grace of God that the man survived. Parise be to God," Nwebonyi added.

Meanwhile, other residents in the area have called for immediate intervention by the state government to reconstruct the bridge serving as only route connecting Ebonyi and Mbeke Development Centres in the area, while expressing dissatisfaction over its bad nature.

It could be recalled that the bridge was bye-passed while constructing concrete pavement based road across it with no hope at sight as contractors had all packed out from the area.

"This bridge was bye-passed when the state government constructed this Nwiboko Obodo road from Ukwuachi to Ochakpephu, which is very close to our parish.

"We have no hope of this government constructing this bridge because the contractors have packed out from their site.

"We are calling  our dogged Governor, the grandmaster of infrastructure of our time, Engr Chief David Umahi to kindly intervene by constructing this bridge.

"If you pass Ovurube bridge now you will testify that we have a wonder working governor. We appeal to our governor to use his good office to save us as it is only this bridge serves as a uniting route between Ebonyi and Mbeke Development Centres in Ebonyi LGA," one of the residents hinted.
