Ebonyi commissioner appreciates Umahi for successful #EndSARS youth summit


The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Hon. Charlse Akpuenika has appreciated Governor David Umahi for the successful hosting of the recent #EndSARS youth summit in the state.

Akpuenika, who was the Secretary of the summit’s organising committee, said that the governor has shown trail blazing and pragmatic instincts in running the affairs of the state.

“Your Excellency, you have through the summit which is the first from any state in the country, demonstrated political sagacity and uncommon love and commitment towards the welfare of youths in the state.

“Your desire to give Ebonyi citizens the best at all times, gave rise to the assemblage of the best cream of resource persons from the academia, clergy, sports and creative industry icons, among others.

The state chairman of the NYSC Governing Council said that re-orientation and quality tutorials which the resource persons delivered at the summit performed magic in transforming the youths to toe patriotic lines.

“It also challenged them to discover their God given talent in making their present challenges-- stepping stones to financial independence through the acquisition of entrepreneurial skills.

“The presence of established football and Nollywood stars: Kanu Nwankwo, Peter Rufai and Zack Orji leading the road walk to promote good governance, not only spiced the 8-day summit but served as a tonic to make youths aspire for greatness.

He appreciated the governor for doling N3billion empowerment grant to the youths to cushion the effect of the #EndSARS debacle among other empowerment packages he announced during the summit.

“The joy of Ebonyi people especially football fans knew no bounds when you announced the return of the state football teams hitherto in oblivion since the disbandment of Ebonyi Angels and Ebonyi Queens in 2007.

“This makes one recall several empowerment schemes of your administration to the youths which include distribution of free Sienna vehicles, tricycles, grants of N250, 000 each to thousands of youths, organization of various sporting events among others.

“The forthcoming King Daivd and Queen Rachel Suer Cups would make Ebonyi youths, especially footballers, discover their talents and present opportunities of being part of the newly formed teams.

Akpuenika on behalf of his family, staff of the ministry of youth development and sports, among others thanked the governor for the summit and wished him more wisdom to continue tinkering the ship.

“You have afforded us in the summit committee, the opportunities of testing our managerial skills just as you made several youths -commissioners, special assistants, executive and technical assistants and offering opportunities to them in elective positions.

“We appreciate your uncommon demonstration of making yourself available at all times to address our needs and we pledge to continue being supportive to your government.
