Armed Forces Day: Umahi to donate farmland to ex-servicemen

The Ebonyi State Government under the watch of Governor Dave Umahi on Wednesday promised to donate a farm of five hectares of land to the men of the legionnaires who have fought a good fight in defending Nigeria as a country. 


Umahi made the pledge at Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State Capital during the launching of 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem and Appeal Fund.


The Ebonyi State Governor represented by his Deputy, Chief Eric  Kelechi Igwe, said the legionnaires' request of farmland was a welcome development to enable them farming and provide for their families.


He restated the state government committement to the promotion of the activities of the ex-servicemen in the state, and however, urged them to never relent at ensuring more security of lives and property.

 
The governor also appreciated the men of the Nigerian soldiers, who had defended the county selflessly,  and assured them of the state government continuous with the families of those who are already late.


NATIONAL PANEL gathered that on the launching, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) under the leadership of Chief Mrs Chinyere Iyioku, the Executive Chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area in the state, donated a sum of five hundred thousand Naira (N500, 000) while the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) led by Very Rev. Fr. Abraham Nwali, represented by his Secretary, Rev. Donatus Njoku donated one hundred thousand Naira (N100, 000).


The Coordinators of Development Centres in Ebonyi, N200, 000, Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo in the state, N50, 000, among others.


Captain Fidelis Ogodo, the Ebonyi  State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, thanked the Governor for his kind gesture while appealing for more intervention.


Ogodo described the event as a day the gallantry of fallen heroes and military are been celebrated, commending Governor Umahi on its monetary support, especially the stipend of member in the state. 



NATIONAL PANEL gathered that the activities marking the 2021 Armed Forces Rememberance Day would continue till 15th January.
