Compensation: NEWMAP Boss demands sincerity from Ebonyi project affected victims

By  Kelechi Nwoba

The State Project Coordinator Nigeria Erosion and watershed Management Project NEWMAP in Ebonyi State, Southeast Nigeria,  Dr. Phillip Echiegu  has called on people living around project intervention areas to cooperate with the agency in carrying out their projects.

Echiegu made this appeal in an interview with Journalists in Abakaliki, the State capital.

He alleged that some of the people living  in those Projects intervention areas do build houses and cultivate crops along the project line just to demand for compensation even they have been paid.

"The major constrient we usually encounter is Project Affected Person. NEWMAP usually put ribbon to  mark where intervention project will be cited but out of greed and stuboness, people would still carry out either farming or building of houses along the intervention areas", he said.

He appealled to all Nigerians to support and secure government project in their areas.

He said most of the intervention projects in the State are almost at completion level, when completed, erosion would be things of the past in the State.

He thanked Ebonyi State Government for being supportive to NEWMAP.
