Secrets behind Awo's Chieftaincy title in first Ezza-Effium Okeaku grand finale





Hon. Chinedu Awo is currently a member representing the good people of  Ohaukwu North Constituency in Ebonyi State House of Assembly and was recently given a Chieftaincy title by his community people. It will please you to know why he was crowned by his people as the Ikeoha one of Ezza-Effium in Ebonyi State, VICTOR NWEGEDE writes:



The young promising leader, Hon. Chinedu Awo was born on the first day of February 1979 into the family of Late Hon. Awo Nwofia of Unwuenyi Unweze village in Umuezekeoha Ezza in Effium Community of Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Ebonyi State.

Navigating through life huddles and pleasantries right from his childhood, the routes to his primary, secondary, tertiary schools and when rendering services to the country during his National Youth Service Corp, testimonies abound in his braveness, social and active participant in every aspect of life.

He attracted award of excellence to his schools as a member of band boys and boys' brigade; and equally displayed an exemplary leadership qualities when he joined politics in 1999 where his active participation in 2003 general elections made him to contest councillorship election and later won massively in all the booths but denied the chance to lead because of the political Lord's differences.

However, God later crowned his effort by willing away his tears through Late Senator Chris Nshi who appointed him as one of his legislative aides.

When his tenure of office elapsed, Hon. Awo did not relent, but continued with his civil service job got in the year 2004 and later in 2014, he was appointed by former Governor Martins Nwanchor Elechi as the Coordinator  of Effium Development Centre. His active participation and interest in politics led to his resignation of his civil service job in 2019, then, contested and won election as the member representing Ohaukwu North Constituency in Ebonyi State House of Assembly.

On Sunday 30th August, 2020, it became a galore of celebration as the state lawmaker, Hon. Chinedu Awo received a Chieftaincy title, 'Ikeoha one of Ezza-Effium' from his people during the first grand finale of Oke-aku new yam festival in his community due to his contributions for grassroot development.



The lawmaker's community, Ezza-Effium,  gave him the Chieftincy title with their solidarity and joyful oviation following his decoration by the traditional titlemen while assembled at the ancient historic playground, Ngangbo Amaberu Ezza Ogbu in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State to celebrate the grand finale of their new yam festival called Oke-aku Ezza Ezekuna, the greatest festival with a rich cultural value in the clan.

It was gathered that the reason behind Chinedu Awo's conferment as Ikeoha one of Ezza-Effium was as a result of his positive roles on the Ezza brand equity collateral which made him to be seen as the guiding light and a role model of his people in the area.

The President, Ezza Union, Effium, Chief Titus Nworie, his Secretary General, Chief Emmanuel Igboke and the President General of Ezza Youth Council, Effium, Comrade Osondu Mgbada confirmed the grand finale was celebrated  for the first  time on the playground to showcase their rich cultural heritage and the value to the whole world.



According to them, the rich cultural values of Ezza-Ezekuna are second to none, as they  added that their cultures are those ties which made Ezza people to stand out among the comity of Nations, pointing that, Oke-aku festival has contributed to the indivisibility of the clan and appealed the people to not allow their culture go into extinction, but to preserve it for generations unborn.

They recalled that Ezza people have been commemorating the festival over the years in Effium to encourage unity, philanthropy, peace, good services and democratic governance contributing for development and healthy co-existence among people, commending the newly traditional titled lawmaker for his services to humanity.

In this context, the Chairman of the occasion, Barr. Dr. Utobo Onele Joseph congratulated the lawmaker for having displayed a worthwhile role in the community level which earned him such recognition, noting that the title has symbolically empowered him to remain the strength of his people and also to be courageous while soaring high in working for humanity and waiting for a greater reward.

Also speaking, the member representing Ezza South State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Chris Usulor felicitated with Awo and pledged supporting him to bring more democratic dividends in the community through their legislative functions and contributions in the House for the people's benefits.



Hon. Usulor and other guests including the Senior Personal Assistant to Enugu State Governor, Engr. Nathenail Chukwu,   Member Ebonyi State House of Assembly Commission, Barr. Alegu Leonard Chibuzor, among others urged Ezza Nation to continue celebrating the festival in considering the annual event  strengthens unity, curtails social vices and other good things learn by young ones about the long aged culture of the land.

In interview with journalists, Hon. Awo expressed joy for his people's recognition and promised to continue using his good office for the benefits of the community. He described the event as the first of its kind since democracy returned Ezza-Effium land and maintained that he would attract government presence in his constituency for rapid development while commending the leadership style of the state Governor, Engr. David Nweze Umahi and all his administrative artilleries.

"It was my contributions for the community development that made my people to call me to contest for the state House of Assembly. They bought form for me. They mobilized and supported me till I won both primary and general elections. I have to immediately after my inauguration embark on giving them all the necessary assistance like scholarship awards, empowerment and even granting them soft loans to help them excel in their businesses. I am aware of their various needs, and I will be more committed to ensure I use my good office to attract more democratic dividends to this community and my constituency in general", Awo hinted.
