As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Ebonyi State, the political ambition of AnyiChuks is facing what observers may describe as significant political obstacles, particularly in the areas of zoning, grassroots mobilisation, political structure and leadership experience.
According to the Fairplay Initiative for Nation Building (FIN), the prevailing political atmosphere in the state presents considerable challenges to AnyiChuks' aspiration, with the group maintaining that Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru enjoys stronger political advantages ahead of the election.
ZONING AND POWER ROTATION
One of the major arguments raised by FIN is the issue of zoning and power rotation in Ebonyi State.
The group maintains that the principle of equity and political balance requires the continuation of power in Ebonyi North Senatorial District to enable the zone to complete its eight-year tenure under Governor Nwifuru.
It argues that AnyiChuks' ambition runs contrary to this established political understanding and could face resistance from stakeholders who believe in maintaining the existing zoning arrangement.
GRASSROOTS STRUCTURE AND POLITICAL MOBILISATION
FIN also questions the political strength and grassroots support available to AnyiChuks, arguing that winning a governorship election requires more than media visibility and political declarations.
According to the group, a successful electoral campaign depends on a formidable political structure, strong ward and polling-unit networks, influential stakeholders, community acceptance and effective mobilisation.
It further alleges that AnyiChuks has yet to demonstrate the level of grassroots support required to compete effectively with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE AND PERFORMANCE RECORD
On leadership experience, the initiative argues that Governor Nwifuru enters the 2027 political contest with a stronger record of public service and political experience.
It points to his previous positions as a party stakeholder, legislator, Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly and his current position as Governor.
The group also highlights what it describes as the administration's achievements in education, scholarship programmes, pension administration, infrastructure, road and bridge construction, housing, healthcare, security, human capital development and industrialisation.
FIN argues that these areas of governance provide the incumbent governor with tangible records to present to the electorate, while challenging AnyiChuks to demonstrate his own leadership credentials and policy achievements.
CLAIMS OF WIDESPREAD POLITICAL SUPPORT FOR NWIFURU
The initiative further claims that Governor Nwifuru enjoys considerable support across different segments of Ebonyi society.
It identifies traditional rulers, political leaders, religious figures, women groups, youths, civil servants, teachers, farmers and other community stakeholders as constituencies it believes are favourably disposed to the governor's re-election.
The group also claims that political support for Nwifuru extends to AnyiChuks' community and local government area, suggesting that the incumbent has an advantage in the ongoing political alignment ahead of 2027.
According to FIN, such political endorsements and stakeholder alignments could significantly influence the direction of the governorship contest.
FIN URGES ANYICHUKS TO RECONSIDER HIS AMBITION
Against this background, the Fairplay Initiative for Nation Building has advised AnyiChuks to reconsider his governorship ambition, arguing that the political realities confronting him make the contest particularly challenging.
The group believes that withdrawing from the race before the election would be a more honourable political decision than pursuing an ambition it considers difficult to actualise.
It insists that zoning, political experience, grassroots mobilisation, stakeholder support and the performance record of the incumbent governor are factors that cannot be ignored in determining the outcome of the 2027 Ebonyi governorship election.
FIN therefore maintains that Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru remains favourably positioned as the state approaches another electoral cycle.
