Chukwuma Odii’s Guber Ambition: A Threat to Equity, Peace And Political Stability — Group Warns

FON Actualization Movement for 2027 calls on Odii to reconsider ambition, urges respect for equity, zoning and peaceful political engagement

By Our Reporter,

A political pressure group, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru Actualization Movement for 2027, (FON-AM 2027) has raised concerns over the governorship ambition of Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that the pursuit of political power without adequate consideration for equity, fairness and the prevailing political realities in Ebonyi State could heighten political tension and threaten the political stability of the state.

The group, which is committed to the re-election of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, described what it termed the recurring nature of Odii's governorship ambition as a development that requires serious political reflection, particularly at a time when the state is expected to consolidate its development efforts, strengthen intercommunal relationships and sustain the atmosphere of peace necessary for democratic governance.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Convener, Comrade Celestine Okeh, the movement called on Odii to reconsider his ambition, arguing that political aspirations should be pursued within the framework of fairness, mutual respect, democratic responsibility and the collective interest of the people of Ebonyi State.

The group warned that any political contest that disregards the need for inclusiveness, consensus-building and respect for the state's political arrangements could deepen divisions among stakeholders and distract attention from governance and development.

It further cautioned that the 2027 governorship contest should not be reduced to a struggle for personal political relevance but should instead provide an opportunity for the people to assess leadership, performance, competence, character and the capacity of aspirants to advance the collective interests of the state.

The movement maintained that equity remains an important consideration in the political development of Ebonyi State, insisting that the pursuit of elective office must be guided by a sense of justice, fairness and responsibility to all component communities.

According to the group, political leadership in a state with diverse communities requires sensitivity to historical experiences, existing political understandings and the need to ensure that no section of the population feels excluded from the process of governance.

It argued that the ability of political actors to recognise the importance of fairness and inclusiveness would contribute significantly to the preservation of unity and peaceful coexistence among the people.

The FON Actualization Movement for 2027 reaffirmed its support for Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, describing continuity in leadership as an issue that should be supported based on the governor's sufficient record of achievements in office, in past three years..

The group said its support for Nwifuru's re-election bid was based on its assessment of his administration's development priorities and its commitment to the governor's People's Charter of Needs policy direction.

According to the movement, the 2027 election presents an opportunity for the people of Ebonyi State to evaluate the incumbent administration's performance, consider its achievements and re-elect him to consolidate on his record achievements.

It maintained that political stability would be strengthened when electoral competition is based on verifiable records, credible policy alternatives and the ability of candidates to respond to the practical needs of citizens.

Addressing Odii's political aspirations, the group questioned what it described as the recurring nature of his governorship ambition and urged him to reflect on the broader implications of his political decisions.

The movement argued that aspiring to govern a state requires more than personal determination or the mobilisation of political supporters. In its view, it also requires a careful appreciation of the state's political history, the expectations of its people and the responsibilities associated with the highest executive office in the state.

The group insisted that the governorship contest should be approached with maturity and a willingness to place the collective interest of Ebonyi State above individual political calculations.

The group expressed concern that intense political competition, if not managed responsibly, could strain relationships among political actors and their supporters.

It maintained that peace and stability are essential conditions for sustained development, attracting investment, implementing public policies and ensuring that government institutions function effectively.

According to the movement, political leaders have a responsibility to ensure that the pursuit of elective office does not undermine the security and welfare of ordinary citizens.

It urged political organisations, community leaders, youth groups and other stakeholders to discourage political intimidation, hate speech and the spread of unverified allegations.

The group said Ebonyi State had important development priorities that required the collective attention of its leaders, adding that political disagreements should not be allowed to overshadow the need for improved living standards, economic opportunities and effective public services.

The FON Actualization Movement for 2027 challenged Odii to explain how he intend to address unemployment, improve rural infrastructure, strengthen healthcare delivery, support farmers, expand educational opportunities and create an environment conducive to private investment better than what the governor has done and still doing.

The movement called on traditional institutions, religious leaders, civil society organisations and community associations to promote dialogue and discourage rhetoric capable of aggravating political divisions.

It further emphasised that the responsibility for maintaining peace rests not only with government authorities but also with political parties, aspirants, organised groups and individual citizens.

It maintained that its support for Governor Nwifuru would be pursued through political mobilisation, public engagement and advocacy for the administration's programmes.

The movement said it would continue to encourage voters across the state to throw their support behind the re-election of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru based on his records, character, policies and capacity he has shown in delivering dividends of democracy to the people of the state..

While the group called on Odii to abandon his governorship ambition, it warned that he could face rejection at the polls if voters concluded that his political calculations did not reflect their expectations.

The movement's warning that Odii could be “disgraced at the polls” reflected its confidence in the electoral strength of the political movement backing Nwifuru and the anticipated victory come 2027 election

As political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, the debate over zoning, equity, leadership continuity and the ambitions of individual politicians is expected to remain an important feature of political discourse in Ebonyi State.

The FON Actualization Movement for 2027 said its priority was to mobilise support for Governor Nwifuru's re-election while encouraging what it considers a fair and stable political environment.

As the 2027 political contest gathers momentum, the central challenge for Ebonyi State's political class will be to reconcile competing ambitions with the demands of equity, democratic participation and peaceful coexistence.
