ASUU FUNAI Complies With National Directives, Embarks On Tree Planting

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike, Ebonyi State branch, has embarked on a tree planting campaign to arrest the negative effects of climate change.

Speaking at the occasion, the branch chairperson, Comrade Louis Omenyi, said the programme was in line with the directive of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Union

He said the branch decided to start the project on its secretariat under construction because of the aphorism that charity begins at home, adding that work on the secretariat under construction resumes to avoid its being affected by negative climate changes currently taking place worldwide.

Comrade Omenyi commended ASUU National Exco under Comrade Chris Piwuna, for the positive initiative of tree planting in Nigerian universities, adding that such measures would help arrest degrading environments in some of our universities.

The Director of Climate Change, AEFUNAI and ASUU branch treasurer, Comrade Christiana Igberi, also commended the initiative and promised that her directorate would partner with the branch ASUU in sustaining an environmentally friendly atmosphere in the secretariat.

The Director of AEFUNAI Campus Green Initiative and Head of Department of Architecture, Arc. Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwu, commended the bold move of the ASUU branch and called on other unions on campus to borrow a leaf from ASUU.

Arc. Dr. Chukwu assured the branch ASUU of the technical support of both his directors and department in ensuring that the ASUU branch secretariat was environmentally friendly. Highlight of the occasion was the planting of a tree each by the 10-member Exco of the branch.
